Hi ppl,
I was wondering if is there any chance in the future for Jamstix to be able to load custom samples without using a subhosted vsti..
atm I'm using it with Battery3 but I personally find this solution a bit of an overkill in some cases, because I think that Jamstix performs better alone, runs more smoothly, at least on my system, and is overall less of a hassle to set up/adjust. Call me lazy..
I'm using this setup for electronic beats which don't require much (if any) sample layering and I think that the ability to directly load custom samples would be a useful addition to the program if doable.
Also: I purchased the metal pak and I really enjoyed the new drummers, I gave danny an electronic kit and came up with some interesting stuff. Any chance to see Marky Punk and Keith Who in a future pack?
thanks for your time and cheers for an awesome prog

Did you try triggering Battery or any other drum VSTi externally by sending JS' MIDI out to the other module ?
Hard to beat for versatility imho and (at least for me) easier to mix with all individual outs.
I love the flexibility of that setup, mix'n'match and layering no problem.
Not exactly the solution to our request, but worth a try imho.
If you're into electronica Battery can do a lot for you, especially when paired with JS2.
Ymmv,

Yep that's something I started doing a while ago as I find it somewhat more flexible than using it subhosted and for standard projects it's the setup I use.
Actually I find new ways to exploit JS almost everytime I use it..
I still could see some useful uses for jamstix loading natively custom samples, for instance if I just need to replace kick and snare of a JS kit or maybe using weird fx in place of some tom or cymbal; to me it just would be easier than loading another sampler just for that task only.

Hi there Professor,
I have watched the JS2 videos on YouTube, and was interested in the one that shows the addition of percussion like tambourine and shakers.
Do the mappings from Jamstix to Battery 3 allow the use of all the JS2 features? Also, which B3 kits are you finding to be most natural with JS2?
Cheers for any pointers.

Hi there Captain,
trying my best, but I'm not sure I can help you here.
First I'm not using B3 much except for the occasional percussion bit or in case I need to hear a GM compatible preview of a MIDI file including percussion.
From memory, there is a soul kit I kinda liked which already was in B2, and a dry kit that wasn't bad.
Imho JS' own natural sounds are miles better than B3's, in combination with Toontrack they're all I need.
With electronic sounds however B3 has an awful lot to offer, the built-in sound mangling features probably make it the most advanced open format drum sampler available.
As far as mappings go, afaik Battery kits never used a single, constant mapping.
So either you remap the B3 kits according to your personal scheme of choice (and then, why not use JS' own mapping ?) or you make custom JS mappings for your B3 kits. Both methods are quite simple and quick once you get the hang of it.
Hope that helps a bit,
have a nice weekend,

Support for custom samples has been and is still being considered but at this time it is not a planned feature due to considerable development time with resulting price pressures and small trade off across the user base especially with existing work-arounds (sfz and others). But it's not a moot point, yet, and still on the backburner. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
