Hi Ralph,

I was wondering if you could consider to sell the drummer models separately (without the samples, I mean). Thx

I don't see the point. It's fairly cheap anyway. Confused

Maybe because you are satisfied with the samples you already have and are interested only in the AI of the drummers? It shouldn't be so difficoult to grasp. I'm not used to buy stuff I don't need, even if it's cheap

I'd bet the majority of the time spent (and thus the majority of the cost) is on the software itself, not the samples; so I doubt they could afford to shave much off the price for just the software.

Your specualtions may turn out to be right, but I think it's a valid question and we should let Ralph answer.

It's a good question and we are considering such Paks. For example: we are working on 'Modern Gospel' drummer models and most people would like use them with many of the current Jamstix 2 kits so it might make sense to have a GospelPak with styles and drummers only.

Once we have a definite product in the pipeline we'll let you know.

Thanks for your reply, Ralph. This is exactly my point: having the possibility to "hire" new drummers without having to buy THEIR favourite kits as well Very Happy

I think it's a great question -- the AI's are what makes Jamstix special. Although the samples are really good, there are lots of places where you can get different drum samples.

I just ordered the MetalPak tonight, for instance. There are plenty of Metal styles I'll never have a use for, but there are some that I will (the samples could well be useful, too). But what intrigues me is what might happen when I use one of the 'metal' drummers with a BrushPak kit.

Or what might happen with an EZDrummer EFX-Percussion sample kit, once DFH Superior grows support for EZD expansions. Something amuses me about tossing an Udu drum into a kit... maybe I'll investigate seeing how to make Jamstix play my Roland Handsonic, too, for that matter. Could be a blast, and useful (or a disaster worthy of a chuckle). And yes, I understand that Jamstix isn't currently designed with that setup in mind, the setup screen tends to show that... But still... Smile

I just think its a bit silly wanting to save, what, 10 dollars most likely, just to avoid getting the samples. Now I agree that if you don't want the samples, you should be able to download just the drummer addons... but really... why take money out of ralph's pocket, it's not like we're dealing with digidesign here!!

As a matter of fact, samples and drummers are two logically distinct products and Ralph himself is considering the possibility of offering drummers-only addons in the future. That's what I (and other users as well) wanted to know.

Your comments on the supposed silliness of my question and the accusation of "taking the money out of Ralph's pocket" are not only offensive but also meaningless: first of all, I bought JS1 short after its release and all the packs but the the metal one, so I guess I made my part to support Ralph's great job; secondly, the opportunity of buying samples and AI separately or bundled widens the offer and makes it easier to satisfy a larger number of potential customers.
Furthermore, what I do with my 10 or 20 bucks is not a matter that requires your opinion.

One of the great things about the Rayzoon forum over the last 2.5 years (!) has been the complete lack of hostility and flaming. Guys, please let us keep it that way. I can feel this thread slowly sliding into that zone and I'm asking you all to help me keep it civil and polite!

Thank you!!

What I find interesting is the idea -- if it saves any time to skip the samples, why not do so? It would be interesting to have new drummers, or a section that plays hand percussion, even if it meant scrounging up samples. Given a good description and some demos, I'd be interested in buying just the smarts to play those parts... so I don't have to, unless I want to.

Everybody, it seems, sells samples -- if it saves time and there's a cool way to go about it, Jamstix BrainPaks would be a good thing, at least for me. After all, there's a lot of really cool development work we'd all like to see happen Smile Save some time, and there's more space for it to happen...
