Ralph, JS2 is amazing! I'm starting to get some really superb results now but there's one area I'm confused about. It's the editing of fills.

I've got a project where I've left it to JS2 to create the fills. Despite applying an automation curve to control velocity, JS2 still plays the same fill pattern, albeit with lower velocity, so I started with the fill editor.

I'm looping the fill in JS2 as you suggested.

My question is: do the controls reflect the settings JS2 used when creating the original fill (when using Jam With MIDI)? Reason for asking is that the slightest change to any of the controls has a masssive impact on the fill structure.

An example is where when looking at a JS2 derived fill, I see the "Simple" knob set to minimum. Move it clockwise just a little and I get a massivey more complex fill, as if the knob wasn't reflecting the "complexity" which JS2 was applying when it generated the original fill.

Hope this makes sense? I'm getting some good results by experimentation but I'm really not sure what I'm doing as, when I turn the various knobe, I get not always the results I expect - in terms of complexity. The main thing is the sudden change to the length of a fill.

Your thoughts appreciated.

Tim

The fill generator is more art than science because so many variables interact with each other. Depending on the style and drummer model, any recomposition of a fill, even with the exact same settings, can be dramatically different.

But the length should always be the exact same if the 'Vary' slider is zero.

So it is going to be a bit of 'recomp until you like it', not unlike working with a real drummer... Rolling Eyes

Ralph, thanks, that's absolutely fine. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything obvious.

I'll do some more experimenting.
