It seems to me from reading posts that using Jamstix in Sonar almost requires directixer; since this adds $49 to the price for a utility that hasn't been updated in over 18 months, it seems it might make sense for Rayzoon to look into some bundling offer. I suspect I'm not the only Sonar user who is "dragging their feet" on this product until either Cakewalk or Rayzoon comes up with a more cost effective solution.
Just so I don't appear totally negative, it does seem like an amazing product! Kudos...... John |

I do see your point. What I'd really like to see is Cakewalk finally implementing MIDI-Out in their VST wrapper! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Yep
One of the reasons dxier has not been updated is because it works.
too bad sonar doesn't.
I wonder if dxier is transferable................I'll have to check it out. |

hear, hear!
i couldn't agree more. they also need to send transport info thru the wrapper so plug-ins with their own transports can follow the host.
i have submitted this FR to cakewalk, but so far...no love.
cakewalk has some serious work to do in this area. |

Not sure what you mean. Jamstix can synch fine to Sonar with the CW VST wrapper. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I struggled with the $49 for DirectiXer, too John. But I bought it anyway because I really like Jamstix and I didn't think Cakewalk would incorporate MIDI-Out into their VST wrapper anytime in the near future. I also noticed DirectiXer hadn’t been updated in quite some time. But it doesn’t seem to need an update. I’m running Sonar 4 PE and have no conflicts with DirectiXer. In fact I like it better than Cakewalk VST Adapter 4. Since the price of Jamstix is such a deal to begin with, the extra $49 was nothing compared to what I've spent on other software and gear! |

I upgraded from Sonar 2 Standard to 4 PE for $179. Even with the $49 for DirectiXer added, I'd still call it a bargain. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

that's what is so weird. jamstix is one of the ones that works, as does the microtonic and dk+.
however, several others do not, eg. sonicbytes EST, and a couple of others which escape me at the moment.
but you make a good point which only confuses me.
when i reported to sonicbytes that EST does not follow the SONAR transport, holger (the developer) responded that cakewalk does not provide the proper info to make that happen.
when i, in turn, reported this information to cakewalk, they responded that indeed, this is not supported in the vst-adaptor (and ask that i submit it as a feature request, which i did - with no luck so far).
at that point i had assumed that the plug-ins which did work were using some special "trick" (dare i say hack) in their code to get the transport info.
now, you point out that it works in jamstix.
???
so did you need to do anything special in the code to "see" the transport while running in SONAR while wrapped with the cakewalk adaptor?
if not, then i am reporting back to sonicbytes regarding this, because i have been wanting EST to work in SONAR forever!
anyway, sorry to digress. but you asked... |

I think the problem is the barStartPos value, which CW VST does not report (it's always 0). There are other hosts that don't report this value (i.e n-Track, although that may have changed recently). It is very easy to work around this because the ppqPos value, which CW VST does report properly, can be used together with the time signature to calculcate the barStartPos. That's why Jamstix runs fine in hosts with or without barStartPos. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| This is quite an outstanding forum. I'm definately going to spend some time this weekend trying out the demo (I had been reluctant before my post to even hassle with the directixer aspect), but the insights I've seen on this and other threads make me think this would be a good community to become a part of. Keep up the great work, Ralph! |

We have contacted the developer of DirectiXer and may be able to offer a Jamstix/DirectiXer bundle in a few weeks. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I don't see a problem with that. Will let you know as soon as the details are hammered out. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
