From what I can tell after googling your BSOD, it might have to do with an on-board sound device...if your mobo has on-board sound, and because you are using an external firewire audio interface, try disabling the on-board sound card in your bios settings, in fact try disabling everything you might not need to use, serial ports, printer ports etc. It will help free up some IRQ sharing.

Thanks, Blindeddie.
Mobo's onboard sound, both Serial ports and LPT printer ports have been disabled since day one.

FW PCI card is now in another slot. It has it's own IRQ now.
Azalia ( enables onboard audio ) was being loaded by BIOS at startup. This along with onboard LAN is now disabled.

fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help, Blindeddie. Cool Leonard

With above changes implimented, Blue Screen error yet persists with
jamstix2_upd_2_0_19rc5.exe hotfix.

Jamstix 1 instance in S7PE has not induced BSOD in one solid hour of recording fun. Cool

I'm sticking with JS1 (which BTW is a total gas to play with! Very Happy ) until I get some feedback here.

edited to make more concise. Thank you. Leonard

The error is a driver error occurring in portcls.sys, which is a XP driver that deals with WDM (IIRC). There is either a hardware conflict, hardware damage or the driver must be updated to a new version that (hopefully) fixes the bug.

The fact that this only occurs with Jamstix 2 on your system is due to specific ways that Jamstix sends and requests data that apparently trigger the bug in the portcls driver or conflict.

I recommend you either switch to ASIO or get the latest version of your WDM driver. Also, please double-check that your onboard sound is really deactivated.

Thanks for helping me narrow this down, Ralph.
I think I have found the fix. I have the latest XP drivers from Tascam installed, but there was also a FW-1804 firmware update available (one which I was certain was already installed prior to this DAW build) available. Anyway. I downloaded and installed it. Tascam's firmware update installer induced the same error message JS2 does during installation. Thankfully, subsequent reattempt after XP reboot was successful.

JS2 has been running error free for more than 2 hours. hehe.. Cool

Next time I will very certainly have every single "I" dotted, every single "T" crossed, before posting anywhere for assistance. T'was a fundamental newbie error on my part. Lesson learned.
Thanks again, Ralph. You most certainly helped me isolate the source of the problem. Leonard

It would also help to know what audio interface you are using...not once did you mention the FW-1804 when explaining your problem. Knowing that would have made it easier to determine the problem...just a suggestion!

It takes a brave man to own up.

I'm glad you are sorted.
