Just downloaded the Jamstix demo. Jamstix is fantastic! I swear it's a real drummer hiding in the PC. I hope to use it live to replace a real drummer (me), so I can play other things live - like percussion, vibes, etc.

Anybody use VSTHost 1.44 and have some usage tricks?

When I load in Jamstix in VSTHost, and load a song it immediately plays - somewhere in the middle of the song. I can't figure out how to stop it, rewind, and start again?

In VSTHost if I hit the "Run" button to stop the engine it will stop. Hitting Run again it starts at the beginning. Unfortunately hitting Run to stop also cuts off the audio. It doesn't sound natural for stopping and starting.

The Jamstix "Lock" will stop it playing, but clicking it again jumps ahead however many measures it was ticking in the background since I first unlocked it. Jamstix rewind appears to rewind but hitting the lock has the same effect. It appears I can do is use the VSTHost run to stop and start.

Really, all I need is a host that takes a tap tempo, and then allow me to kick off different part names in Jamstix.

Thanks for any help.

PS: I can get a great tap-tempo from Tap!

Cool, I'll give it a try. I heard of Reaper, but just thought it was for audio.
thanks,

I do wish there were some simple wrapper for jamstix to allow it to run standalone. It would be very helpful in my case.

SAVIHost is such a simple wrapper.

I mean a simple host with remote tap tempo and remote start/stop.

It's way too much work to try and figure out a decent host program, just to get to the basics to use jamstix.

Anybody here actually use vsthost?
How do you get jamstix to just not automatically play?
As soon as you load jamstix it just starts playing.

In the file menu of "Engine" you just uncheck "run" before you load your VST. This way Jamstix won't start running until you want it to.

You must have "run" enabled if you load a synth to hear the sounds and to have Jamstix play back as well.

VSTHOST is a very simple "stand-alone" and you can run several VST's at once. It's brother SAVIHOST is even simpler but you must put it in the folder of your VST's and name it the same as the DLL file you want it to play. You can then make a shortcut on your desktop to that file for quick launching. It plays only the VST (DLL file) that it's named after.

Hope this helps?!?!?

Thanks Markus2323,

I did notice the stop/run of the engine works in vsthost, but stopping is glitchy. It immediately stops the audio, and glitches and chokes.

I was hoping there was some way to just stop the midi. like hitting the "stop" in Ableton or Project5.

I noticed clicking the "Locks Jamstick to host transport" unlock that the drums stop but audio keeps going and cymbals and such ring out. So this might also work. Unfortunately, There doesn't appear to be a right click "midi controller" automation that I can add to the lock/unlock to allow me to work around this in vsthost.

Sorry to keep bothering with all these hosts - but I'm just trying to figure out the right one for me. I do appreciates everyone's help.

thanks,
