I'm working on a song that switches to an electronic kit for the bridge. Since I can's see any way to change the kit from part to part, I assume assumed I needed to open a second instance of Jamstix.

I have silent bars in each instance when the other is playing - only one is playing at a time, but when the second one kicks in, everything starts to stutter and crackle. My VST meter in Cubase is off the chart.

Even when I disconnect the second instance from the host (with the lock Icon) My Vst Meter is between 60-90%.

I have a dual core, connroe processor, two gigs of ram, dual hard drives, etc. There are no other tracks in the song, neither midi or audio, recorded yet. I have I have an Auto Panner and a Compressor on instance 2 , but the problem exists when they are not processing anything. I should be able to have a large number of tracks, each with multiple processors on this rig.

I am sure JS2 should not be using up this much resources - what is the problem? And to go back a step, is it possible to have two different kits on diferent parts of a song in the same instance of JS2?

Thanks,
Geoff

Changing the kit during a song is not possible at this time.

Please send me your rzdlog.txt file from the Jamstix 2 folder so we can figure out the CPU load issue.

Just a shot in the dark, are you using Cubase 4.0.3, 4.0.2 or 4.0.1? 4.0.3 was supposedly a "maintenance patch" but it fixed a massive number of problems I was having to the point where I could move from SX3 up to version 4 finally. If you're not on 4.0.3 (assuming you are), then definitely download it.

As you know, Steinberg are hardly like Ralph when it comes to support or proactively handling bugs on their Forum Rolling Eyes

Thanks for your suggestion - I checked my DAW at lunchtime and Cubase 4 has not been updated. I thought I had done it - in fact, the first thing i did when I read your suggestion, was check my download files , and I had it downloaded (the hotfix) here on my laptop. As it turns out, I had never transfered it to my DAW.

In the mean time Ralph was right on top of things, as usual. I sent him the files he requested, and he sent me back an "updater" to try. I'll try one or both solutions tonight and see if it helps.

Thanks,
Geoff

I did update Cubase with 4.0.3. It made no difference - but it was definately a logical step, and worth the try.

In the mean time, Ralph is working on the problem. I am confident he'll figure it out.

Thanks for your input,
Geoff
