Hi Ralph,
Host = Reaper
Style = Silent
Drummer = All of them in turn.
I set up a 3 Core bar part with 4 reps.
Core bar is a Kick on 1 & 3 - HH triplets on 2 & 4.
I locked the 3 Core bars. I also locked the Groove notes [via the bar editor]
I have been playing with this ALL afternoon observing how each different drummer alters the groove, adds accents, and fills. Very educational.
When I select Recompose > Whole Part from the Part Menu .... the NON core bars are recomposed as expected. They core bars stay unchanged.
Except with Carter .... after the first play through extra Hats have been added to the core bars.
Should he be doing this ?
On a similar vein:
from the manual:
"The LOCKED buton alows you to lock the note similar to locking a bar but it only afects this single note. When you add notes manualy in the bar editor they are always locked by default so the brain won’t erase and overwrite them when it composes"
Are notes pasted via right click on the bar timeline considered to have been "maually added" ?
Thanks
Graham |

I've noticed similar behaviour, but by Phil. I made a train-pattern with LH and RH snares on each alternating tick. When I loaded that and selected Roger, everything was fine. As soon as I selected Phil all fast LH notes were erased, even in the core bar! I had a pattern loaded using the Import style. I didn't dig deep into it because I went with Charlie in the end (he just does what you want him to do ), but it seems as if the Core bar CAN indeed be changed by certain drummers no matter what. |

I too noticed sometimes odd behaviour with drummers, but as it quickly gets complex, and I sometimes get lost in all my experiments, I am not always sure whether it is me or something else. ...not really a usefull remark, sorry...
Is the pocket feel always correct when it is set for drumming ahead of the beat? Or is it me not being accustomed to these type of beats? Often when loading a style / drummer, I quickly set it back to zero/the middle after listening to it for a while, leaving me a bit puzzled why I do this.
It would be nice if you could quickly reset a drummer/style to its default value, or just remove the drummer again. Or even reset a single slider to its default value, or even to the zero value (like for pocket feel). Is there a difference between having Drummer Silent and no drummer at all?
Moaning besides, JS2 is such a powerfull program, I'm discovering more cool and subtle beats every day. Like the breakbeat stuff! |

Thanks for the replies: at leeast I know I'm not imagining it all.
I thought this was supposed to be Artificial Intelligence - seems Ralph has made these drummers too human
J van E: I guess a " train-pattern" is a drumming term? big clue as to why I bought Jamstix in the first place
Lucky: Yes I got sort of lost in my own experiments too
I just tried Carter with Classic Rock system rebooted twice.
When it did stay up I decided to add some 1/8 kicks - which were added but Carter chose not to play most of them.
I exported the bar as a JS2 groove and Phil played it perfectly.
Drummers !

Carter played his drums too loud so he developed a hearing problem due to which he seldom listens to what you say. He is the drummer that will change your patterns the most! Which can be very nice sometimes! But if you want a drummer that sticks a bit more to your patterns, choose (starting with the drummer who fools around the least) Charlie, Roger or Phil . |

Could you elaborate on that a bit? Could you also send me your rzdlog.txt file from the Jamstix 2 folder? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Agreed.
I made a table for how each of the drummers pplayed my groove noting how much they "fooled around" with the groove / accent / fills.
Its been a useful crib sheet before tweaking the brain settings.
As you say Charlie, Roger or Phil seem to have the smaller egos

The notes I made at the time:
Using JS Deluxe Maple Kit
Jamming with Audio
Clear Song
Style Custom
Drummer Carter
Hit play ...... Reaper invites me to send an Error Log ...
when I click no - XP reboots.
I managed to do this 3 times in succession after re-booting ... I'll try again later and see if I can recreate it.
Of note: I had been playing for hours before this happened - with only the odd non-recreatable glitch.
As this all happened about 28 hours ago the system has been up and down like a yo-yo - will the rzdlog.txt file still be of use ? If so I'll get onto this system and send it.
Thanks

The log is reset when JS2 launches so it is only helpful right after a crash. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
