Just wanted to say that I can successfully run Jamstix in Logic 5.5.1, either using its built-in sounds or by externally driving BFD. However My Logic version is not Platinum but Gold.
What kind of crashes should I expect (if any ) given that I tested all the functionalities (MIDI jam, Audio jam, etc....) and everything went smooth. |

Good to hear that it works fine with Jamstix for you! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Just gave it a try using PC AV as a driver. It didn't really crash but I've got clicks and pops whatever the buffer size. |

| Using Jamstix (1.2 or latest beta ) in Logic Gold 5.5.1 I can load an external vsti (BFD) only once. If I switch back to the internal sounds and try to reload BFD afterwards I get a GUI corruption (the window for configuring BFD is empty and all grey). Can you comment on this? Is it a Jamstix related bug or a Logic related one ? |

It's Jamstix-related and occurs in hosts other than Logic as well but it happens only with BFD. We're working on it...
EDIT: THIS HAS BEEN FIXED IN THE LATEST JAMSTIX UDPATE. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I think I am missing something simple but I can't seem to get this Jamstick to work with Logic 5.5 Windows. Could someone give me the steps used to get it to work?
Thank you

I purchased Jamstix and was really exited about it at first. But the longer I experiment with it, the more disapointed I get. Jamstix is a nice tool for mainstream work. But two steps beside it gets confused.
My problems:
In EXT it doesn't detect any time signatures.
In Logic 5.51 it only detects one and no changes.
These are the two hosts I work with.
My songs however contain often signature changes such as a half bar more before the bridge and so on. So Jamstix gets useless for me.
Could anybody help me?
JoPiano
P.S. I will post the same in the EXT column. |

That would have to be an EXT problem.

Logic may not sent time sig changes to VSTis during song play. I would get clarification on that from Logic support.

Time sig change detection in Jamstix works great with Cubase and Sonar for example. I know it's not helping you but it shows that it does work in Jamstix.

The problem with time signature changes is that the VST specification is really worthless when it comes to song pointer position in such an environment. The VST spec only provides current partial quarter note and bar start position (the latter is not even provided by some hosts) so there is no telling what the current bar/beat is unless you know all time sig changes in the past of the song and recalculate it step by step from there. That is very cumbersome and error-prone as you may start a song from, let's say bar 10 but bar 6 had a time sig change. Now any VSTi is basically screwed.
This is not a Jamstix problem. It is a basic flaw/omission in the Steinberg VST specification.
Jamstix works around this by remembering time sig changes and doing the calculation that I eluded to. But it only works if Jamstix got all the time sig changes aforehand so you need to first set up your time sig changes for the whole song and then let it play once through so JS can learn the sig changes, then save the song. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I just wanted to post in here that I am running Jamstix in Logic Audio Platinum 5.5.1 and it is subhosting fine. However I have yet to try anything advanced like time signatures changing or trying to get at the multiple outputs. Just thought this might help prospective purchasers - obviously I tested the demo first but it's always reassuring to know it works for someone with your chosen sequencer.
Now off to search the forum to see if someone is running Jamstix on a Mac via bootcamp.
I trust that Logic is represented in the beta testing of JS2? |

Yes, some people have done that.

Actually no, since there is no further PC support for Logic. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

A little disappointed here that you are not looking to see if JS2 runs inside Logic (in case it is a problem that could have been avoided within JS as opposed to a problem with the unsupported long in the tooth host). But I suppose the problems will be with up to date functionality which we'd not want to see removed anyway.
It's just that I've been with Logic since Atari Notator days.
If JS2 works in Logic fine. If not I either really have to learn Reaper or stick with JS1. I have options.
JS(1) is a superb program.
Enough talking. Back to using it. |

Got back from 2 weeks holiday yesterday evening. First impressions of using
Jamstix 2 (latest beta) with my blue-dongled Logic 5.5.1 platinum are good. The midi drag and drop seems to work - which I was worried about given the age of my host. In one Logic song the drag and drop duplicates the item being dropped. Not sure what's going on there but not an issue.
Where should I have placed the JS2 stock kit? Songs with JS1 in are asking me if I want to install it when I open them?
I echo the need for some tutorial/vids once more pressing matters are sorted. But all in all a great product well worth the wait. And some sticks to use for intros in the percussion area - great.
Both versions of Jamstix also subhost the EXS24P quite nicely by the way. |

Please remove the JS2 stock kit file from the 'addons' folder of Jamstix 1 so you won't get the prompt anymore.
JS2 stock file gets installed from 'Install Pak' and not the addons folder. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Just to record things here for other Logic users - with hotfix JS2 2.0.16 or later, if you set Options: bar offset; to minus 10 in JS2, then JS2 overcomes a bug in the Logic vsti implementation and plays from the 'correct' bar position (with relation to the Logic song position).
So currently all things JS2 in the Logic sticky are hunkydory. |
