Does Jamstix 2 use the rhythm from MIDI input?

If so, in what ways?

The effect of velocity changes is obvious, but I can't tell what's happening as I change the rhythms coming in.

Thanks, and great product!

Hi nedwardo

To save me typing it out, have a look at page 20 of the manual, at the top.

JS2 does react differently to midi input from JS1.

I hope that is what you are refering to.

regards

Quote:
"The Jam mode will not influence the pattern but its performance. Watch the power knob as you play. At low power you should hear rhythm reduction, switch to sidestick and less accents and the drum power follows the song power. At max power you should hear a switch from hihat to ride (or semi hats or crash depending on drummer settings).

Now that's the basics. If you want to make things more interesting do this:

Right-click on any brain control of your liking (i..e. Kick Complexity) and select 'Power' as the controller in the dialog that opens.

The slider will now move inline with the song power, which in turn is controlled by your MIDI play power in Jam With MIDI mode. This will actually recompose the groove in response to your playing. You can map as many brain controls as you'd like to 'Power' and also use 'Invert' to flip the control direction"

Just found the above quote from Ralph on another thread

I guess what I was really looking for is whether JS2 varies what rhythm it plays in response to different input rhythms. In other words, if I send in 16th notes will it play a different pattern than if I send in 8th notes? Can it adjust fills to fit an incoming pattern?

As I understand it, the Power control has more to do with playing intensity than with what pattern of hits come out.

We went down that route and it does not produce good and reliable result. It is better to have the brain control the groove and use the MIDI input data for velocity, switch rules and some extras (like staccato hits).
