I'm finding the very small grid and and its arrangement by limb control to be a serious problem. I'd rather just see the available hit categories (drum, beat, etc) and let JS figure out whether or not it's legal. I don't see any advantage in my needing to envision which limb I'll need for each hit - I'm not a drummer, and I think about the various drums very much like JS1 presented them. Obviously it's especially absurd for electronic music (which is really a shame because the Machine drummer immediately seemed very well programmed to me). I do like the grid idea, but JS1's editor was so much faster and easier - room to see everything, one click per hit, and most importantly, no popup!

Any increase in size for that grid would be enormously helpful too - I spend about 80% of my JS time there. I'm really worried that combining so many things on one page might have made things more confusing.

Just my 2 cents. One idea might be to have an option to see the rows represent the different drums instead of the player's limbs?

I agree 100% that the Bar Editor needs to be larger. As it is, with my "older" eyes, the instrument icons + velocity indicators look vaguely like flags waving to the west! Wink And that's where I expect to spend most of my time, too.

Thanks-

Everyone has got their own way of working so I'm not posting to invalidate the opinions already expressed here. My counter-opinion is that I think the limb based editor is genius. If you really want to just program loops without regard to limbs then you could just make midi loops. You can then have jamstix run the midi through its brain to humanize, or not.

I also have trouble thinking in terms of limbs, but it is true that it opens up different ways of thinking about drums. Wouldn't it be cool if there were drummer models with more than the usual numbers of limbs? An alien drummer? For example in the old Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter of Mars series, Carter has a friend named Tars Tarkas who is a Martian with four arms. Wouldn't a four-armed drummer be cool? Or a drumming octopus?

Waiting patiently for a Tars model . . .

John

Edit: Nice pictures of four-armed Martians on this site--
