I was wondering if you could put a "Preview" button for the MIDI rhythms and for the Intros, Fills and Endings at some point? I find that's the hardest part about using this tool. I never know exactly what's going to come out until I start playing along with it. It would be much faster and easier to work with if I could preview the intros and fills before I use them. Same with the Rhythms. They're a good place to start, but it's hard to tell what they're going to sound like from their names. It would be great to hear it before I put it into place.

I'm still new to this tool (I guess everyone is, since it's version 1), but are there more rhythms on the way?

I have to say this is a pretty impressive tool. It's got lots of potential. It's nice that you've combined good programming with creativity and a good sense of actual musical knowledge. I'm guessing somebody there (maybe you?) must actually BE a drummer?

Thank you. I'm hoping to get good enough with this little gizmo to actually start recording with it for real soon. If you need me, I'll be reading the manual again trying to understand this thing...

there is a preview..you click on the little notes in the fill area..it isn't linked to the tempo though, so they always are in 120 BPM..which isn't the end of the world, but could be a col update.

This feature was the only thing holding me back from making this really useful. Now, I'm going to have to find other excuses not stay in the studio 24/7. Cool. Cool

I'm not sure if this has been asked in a separate thread (I did a quick search and I didn't find any), so I hope there is no duplication.

I would like to have a way of "keeping" individual bars instead of just the entire arrangement, such that Jamstix will not compose/generate new things for the specific bars that have been marked as "keep". There are times when I really like a certain passage that Jamstix composed, but there are a few bars that I want to redo. I know I can edit the resulting MIDI file in an external sequencer (which is what I'm doing right now), but a "keep" feature would definitely speed things up for me.

Yes! That's exactly it! The two additional options, Lock All and Unlock All, would certainly complement that functionality. Very Happy

A "Write Midi File" option would be really handy as well. Apparently some, if not most, hosts have issues recording the midi output during playback, so it would be great if JS could be set to write it's midi output to a file during playback.

I know that may be easier said than done, but if it's feasible that sure would simplify the workflow for hosts that don't support recording it. This would give the user ready access to both a basic sequence from the arranger via "export" and a full JS performance sequence via this new function.

For those of us using external sounds, these midi files are pure gold and anything that can help us get our greedy little hands on them is a very good thing!

There is an 'Export To MIDI' function in the arrangement tab.

Be aware though that thisfunction cannot recreate external factors that may have influenced Jamstix during the jam. The function actually runs through the arrangement and outputs so whatever is active at that time gets written.

We will revisit this and add a 'Export Jam' kinda function that writes a MIDI record buffer from the jam to disk.

Also, Cubase and Sonar/DirectiXer have no issues recording MIDI-Out that I know of.

Oooo, oooo, can we have a "save jam to .wav" function too? Sort of like Chainer's record function, but saves the drum part only to a .wav file? I know, I know, beat me bloody, I'm a greedy bastard, but this would be great for people like me who do their mixing, etc. in Adobe Audition (no vsti support). Thanks for your patience with us, Ralph. You truely are one-of-a-kind!

Whether it was for a midi export or a wav export, I'd like to see Jamstix have some way to control dynamics in Manual mode without having to automate via midi.

Since there are free hosts that provide "record to WAV" capability (for example TobyBear MiniHost and even Plogue Bidule), I'm not sure that Jamstix needs it anytime soon.
