First of all, is your DFHS set to 'Stereo Mixdown'? If not and you don't want to, go to the mapping tab in Jamstix and increase the outputs in the sounds panel to 16, then close Jamstix.
Reopen Jamstix and go to the MAPPING tab and hit LOAD. Try the DFHS GM 500 file for starters. It should come up and ask you for the location of your 'drummer.dll' (the DFHS plugin). After you select it, it should simply load.
If this doesn't work, use the 'External VSTi' switch in the Sounds panel of the mapping tab and manually select the 'drummer.dll', you should get the DFHS config screen up.
Hope this helps! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Yep that worked but the only thing now is the girl announcement level is to high to handle.... |

You could set DFHS to 'Stereo Mixdown' for now, bring the outputs in Jamstix back down to 4 and mute the other three outputs. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I finally had a chance to try Jamstix with DFHS inside Fruity with 2G of RAM. I preloaded the Sonor kit (1.2G) and this certainly improved the Jamstix experience. No more listening to missed strikes while DFHS is loading it's samples. 2G of ram is the only way to go given the pseudo randomness of the hits Jamstix will use (and thus require DFHS to load). |

Absolutely agree, Sekim. DFHS rocks but you really must be able to load the whole kit to have proper playback live with tools that really use the expressiveness of DFHS, like Jamstix does. The "cache" function in DFHS is IMHO really just a crutch, the load delay is just not acceptable.
But once you've got the RAM, man does it really sound 'superior' _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I just wanted to discuss the pros and cons of loading drum samplers into Jamstix Vs loading them directly into the host - Cubase SX 3.02 in my case.
I just tried working with Jamstix loaded and DFHS loaded in another VST Instrument slot in Cubase SX 3.02. I routed midi out from Jamstix to DFHS and all midi ins to Jamstix. Seems to work OK.
Is there any reason not to work this way with Jamstix and DFHS? Is there any way to get Jamstix to dump its own kit when working this way?
I also use BFD. If I load BFD All into Jamstix with 16 outputs in Cubase SX the automatic labelling of the BFD outputs in the mixer (which happens when you load BFD ALL directly into the VST instruments rack) does not happen.
It would seem that mixing and processing BFD All would be easier when loading it directly.

When using the full version of Jamstix in Cubase SX, there is no reason why you can't let Jamstix trigger DFHS via MIDI out as you described.
However, the special DFHS functions, such as L/R snare etc. will not be active since Jamstix doesn't know it is triggering DFHS. We'll see if we can come up with a way to do this in a maintenance update.
Concerning the internal samples:
We'll make an updated Jamstix DLL available for testing soon that will have a reset button in the mappings tab so you can do this:
- load DFHS mapping of your choice into Jamstix
- switch to 'Internal' in the mappings tab. The Jamstix samples are loading but the key mapping is still DFHS
- Click R button next to 'Sample' box in the mappings tab. Jamstix now unloads all internal samples
- Save mapping for future use

Ralph!....awsome job on Jamstix
I fixed my little issue with snare ghost notes when using DKFHS.....they would make this clicking sound however lowering the "Soft / Limit" fader on the Snare Pad for that sound allows the ghost notes to come right on through
anyway thanks for a great tool - look forward to all the future updates!

After working with JS, I think it would be extremely useful to have two things added to JS in order to generate DFHS format midi files.
First, an option to send midi in DFHS format or GM format.
Second, a midi output option in JS to send the midi to a specific device, i.e. a physical midi port or a virtual such as Midi Yoke.
So far, JS has been working great for monitoring sounds in all of the various JS modes, but I haven't been able to bounce a set of tracks out of DFHS or capture a generated midi file in DFHS format. I haven't been able to capture a GM format midi file either.
Capturing a DFHS midi file is by far the most import thing for me. I'd take that over the ability to bounce out of DFHS while hosted by JS.
Maybe some of these are possible today and I'm not understanding how to do it, any help is appreciated! |

We think there's an issue with the MIDI export and we're on it. Stay tuned, this may take a few days as we are busier than ever... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

OK, I found the midi export in the arranger and that worked great.
So I can get a what I'm assuming is a GM midi file without having to use the host to record the JS output.
So the midi device select idea loses alot of importance.
The export DFHS or GM midi would be awesome though. |

The arranger MIDI export uses the current mapping, so if you are in DFHS mode you should get a DFHS-mapped MIDI file. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Cool - I'm probably good to go.
Concerning possible problems with the export, it's working fine for me. I noticed that someone said they got an empty file. Depending on how I stopped my host, the cursor was either "stop at location" or "stop and return to beginning". Given that the JS export does "from beginning to current bar" I can see how an empty file will be generated if they have a host that does "stop and return to beginning with the cursor" and then they try JS export..
[edit] Yes now that I know how to do it, I'm good to go on generating midi files in DFHS format. It's working great in Samplitude 8.1
Thanks Ralph! |
