I have noticed that when I open a song in Sonar 6 that uses JS 2, it loads really slow. The JS 2 sample load dialog pops up and most samples take around 7 - 10 seconds to load. With a whole kit it is really slow. I only noticed this in one of the later builds (around 2.0.5 to 2.0.7).

This may or may not be anything to do with JS 2. There are a bunch of other soft synths also loading but as I said this only started with a later version of JS 2.

Just a heads up in case something related to the sample loading in JS 2 changed recently and this is exposing some bug related to that.

Mind you, I also have a JS 1 instance in there so they might be interacting with each other, but this didn't happen when I initially added JS 2 into the song.

EDIT: I also noticed really slow saving of a Sonar project. Sonar has an auto-save feature, and now, every time it kicks in, I might as well go and make a cup of coffee. Once again, not sure if this is related to JS 2 or not but this is certainly new behavior from Sonar 6 that I have not seen since using a build of JS 2 past 2.0.4 or so.

OK, some test results...

I have removed the old JS 1 instance, and now the JS 2 loads fast again.

However, saving is still quite slow. OK, maybe not go-make-coffee slow but still JS 2 slows down the save dramatically. I have around 10 different soft synths loaded. When I freeze JS 2 (I am talking freeze via Sonar), Sonar saves the song in about 1 second. When I unfreeze JS 2 it takes about 15 seconds to save. It doesn't sound long but when you are in the middle of editing a song and the auto-save kicks in, it is quite disruptive.

BTW, I don't have anything sub-hosted in JS 2.

Please load the project in question and use 'Save Song' in Jamstix 2, then send me that file.

I emailed you the song. I noticed that when I do Save Song from within JS 2 it also saves slow.

Yea, this is either a bug or a "feature" with Sonar. To make it work, you need to record at least one event directly in the MIDI track of JS before your song and one after your song. If you don't do this, Sonar thinks there is nothing to freeze, so it doesn't do anything. Note again you need at least two events total to cover the whole range you want to freeze.

Fixed in 2.0.8 but unfortunately your existing song lost its 'Import' style settings so you need to re-import them.

Not 100% sure what you mean by that. Are you saying that the song I sent you lost its import setting or my song will lose the import settings once I upgrade to 2.0.8? Not that it really matters. This just an experimental song to learn JS 2.

Glad to hear it was actually something you could fix. Looking forward to using the new version!

I think it's already messed up in your song file because the import style save logic was faulty.

No problem. As I said this is only an experimental song.

So it looks like it saves faster now. Saving time is down to 5 seconds. JS 2 still looks a bit save-heavy compared to other plugins, and not as good as the 1 second with only the ten other synths and with JS 2 frozen but a big improvement nonetheless.

We will improve the save times further down the road. Remember that JS2 saves a A LOT more data than any synth due to its built-in arranger, buffered song data and very complex data structures.

I don't even have a MIDI track of JS. I just have a synth track, no need for a MIDI track, until now anyway. I added a MIDI track with output sent to JS, entered a silent control event to the beginning and to the ending, and whawla! I could freeze the track via Sonar. Thank you BitFlipper for the help.

I have no need to add an extra MIDI track and freeze via Sonar now. I just installed the new 2.0.8.

The JS2 freeze feature now works perfectly!

The samples are loading very slowly in JS2 with Sonar 7. The slow loading problem seems to have returned for me, somewhere in the 2.teens versions I think, or with Sonar 7 upgrade. Whichever is the cause, its very slow loading JS2 samples for me.

Go to the 'Options' page and increase the 'Sound Load Priority'.
