|
|
Hi -
I was comparing the size of the 5 packs + stock drum packs with the packs I got with Jamstix2XL.
I'm just wondering about the fact that the cumulative sizes of the previous packs were much much larger than the new ones.
Should I install the old packs into Jamstix2 as well as the new XL packs? |

The size difference is due to a new compression algorithm used in the JS2 Paks, which makes them a lot smaller. The actual sample data is identical. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi
Can I just ask, does this mean that when we upgrade from JS1 to JS2 there is no need to install the kits which come with JS2? (assuming we have the full JS1 kit including all the extra packs)
Is JS2 able to use the existing JS1 kits?
The reason I ask, is that it would obviously save on disk space.
Cheers. |

That is correct. Jamstix will find your installed JS1 sounds and Paks and use them automatically. All you need to install from JS2 is the new stock kit. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ah, OK.
Thanks Ralph.
So presumably the stock kit for JS2 is different in some way to the JS1 stock kit, so we can't use the JS1 stock kit for JS2? |

You can use any existing kit with JS2, including the JS1 stock kit. But you definitely want to check out the new stock kit because it is MUCH better than the old JS1 stock kit and much work went into it... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

That's great, Ralph.
Many thanks for your quick replies. |

Do you mean it will find the existing installed Paks? I guess then I needn't have got or indeed installed XL as the sounds will all be duplicated.
One question though - when i chose a lot of the kits in the kit window I get a message about missing sounds. For instance "Jamstix 2 Funk '69 XL" has 21 sounds missing. |

If you already own all Paks and bought XL by mistake drop me a mail and we'll refund the difference.

Hmm, sounds like you don't have all sounds installed. You can use the 'Install Pak' button to re-install all your Paks. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Okay - I tried reinstalling all the paks, i still get missing sounds on some kits if i click around the kit it's often the cymbals that are missing.
One more thing - under Tracktion the whole caboodle is very unstable - even with the latest patch - also occasionally a single drum in the kit window will produce sound which appears in all the meters but doesn't actually come out of the audio output - it's very strange. It's usually the bass drum too. |

We're gonna JS2 stable as soon as we can. None of our beta testers had this issues but the whole thing is rather embarassing . Rest assured we'll get this licked very soon! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I know what you mean. I've learned long ago through experience that you can never have too many beta testers. I have a commercial music software product out for which the head of the company decided 10 beta testers were enough! This is a major application that's being sold in places like Guitar Center and Walmart. Fortunately, there have been no major killers, mainly because I relied on a well tested third party app framework and did a lot of in house beta testing on various different machines and OS installations (ranging from PIII to AMD64 server chip machines) before sending out any releases. None-the-less, some of the bugs that did escape were quite embarrassing. For example, the installer does an internet check for the latest files and downloads and runs them, but the license checker always runs the original CD version -- 5000 CDs pressed with this mistake! Imagine all the angry customers calling tech support after the first update cycle because now their program doesn't run. Fortunately, I was able to hack a patch that allowed the downloaded files to override this. |
