I have tried the Jamstix demo on a song I have recorded in 5/4 time, synching either to the rhythm guitar track or the orginal drums audio. I can't get it to sound right at all and wondered if this is because Jamstix can only cope with straight four rhythms. I'll admit that I haven't spent a long time tweaking the parameters but I wanted to know if this is possible before spending more time on it.

Well, you hit the weak spot Smile

Jamstix can only do 2/4 4/4 6/8 and 3/4.

However you ca do combo rhythms like 7/4 as (4/4+3/4) if you set that up in the sequencer. I just tried 4/4+1/4 to get 5/4 in Sonar and it works fine with the new RC-1.03 release of Jamstix that has time sig change support.

I know this isn't elegant but it works.

Hi Ralph - thanks for the reply. I'm not quite sure what you mean by setting up combo time signatures. I use Tracktion as my sequencer so I don't know how different that would be from doing it in Sonar. Presumably though the demo version of Jamstix doesn't support this feature?

In Sonar I just set bar 1 to 4/4 and bar 2 to 1/4 then I copy them both and paste them with repetition set to 100 or so and I have a nice 5/4 combo for 100 bars.

In Tracktion I was able to use the tempo bar to set up bar 1 as 4/4 and bar 2 as 1/4 but I can't see a way to copy/paste them to avoid having to manually enter all these sig changes for the whole song.

I'm not a Tracktion user so maybe someone else knows the trick?

This will work in the RC-1.02 demo available in this forum.

EDIT

I am no longer having luck with sonar. As a matter of fact, I have "creepy" problems that ultimatly lead to having to completly uninstall/reinstall with sonar on a regular basis.

I need to stick with podium and tracktion, they actually work!

How do you quickly set up an alternating pattern of 4/4 and 1/4 in Tracktion?

EDIT

I am able to do just about any time signature I want with tracktion/podium. This includes 5/4. I do not need to set up anything additional.....I just change the time signature in the host and.........WALA! It works.

Hopefully I won't have to edit this post again..........only doing so because of sonar problems, where it used to do time/sig changes no prob...........
