|
|
In JS2, is there a way to have a cymbal wash that builds slowly across 2 or more bars? So far, I've only been able to figure out how to get it to build across all or part of a single bar, which is too quick for what I'm currently working on.
A somewhat related question -- I tried to work around the issue noted above by directing the output of a hand-coded midi track to JS2. However, this only works if JS2 as a whole is set to "Drum Module Mode." What would be nice (and maybe this is possible) is to be able to switch at will between having JS2 play a midi track like a "dumb" drum machine for some parts, but using the brain to construct the other parts on the fly, rather than having to choose one or the other for the entire project.
As yet another related side note, I've tried just importing a midi file with the hard-coded cymbal wash, but get "MIDI Import Error: '32(O' is not a valid integer value" |

There is no facility for 2-bar washes at this time. We are working on MIDI thru in jam mode so that should help.
Concerning the import error: could you send me that MID file? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Thanks for the quick response. One thing that could help is being able to specify the minimum and maximum velocities for the cymbal wash, drum roll, etc., which would then allow you to string them across measures w/o having to hand code them. |

Just posted 2.0.4 beta with 'MIDI Play In Jam' option in the Options tab so you can trigger sounds via MIDI even in jam mode. Just make sure to set your jam channel to a different channel so Jamstix doesn't try to jam with the hits. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks, that should be a helpful addition! I just had a few minutes to play around this morning, and am encountering a problem when having a midi track output to JS2 (for 'MIDI Play in Jam'). If I start playback BEFORE the midi clip, everything is fine. However, if I start playback anywhere after the beginning of the midi clip, the global velocity ("Power") in JS2 turns down to 12%.
Let me give an example, as I don't think I described it well above. In Sonar 6, I have a midi track whose output is set to jamstix2. The midi track is blank, except for a short clip near the beginning of the project that runs from bars 3 - 10, which contains some kick and cymbal hits (including a couple of multi-bar cymbal washes). If I start playback from anywhere before the beginning of bar 3, everything works as expected, with JS2 playing the midi track (w/ the brain silenced during that time by using a part with locked blank bars) then begins playing on its own beginning at bar 11. However, if I start playback anywhere from the beginning of bar 3 onward (even if I start playback from beyond where the midi file has ended), the Play Power automatically changes to 12% immediately upon pressing play (all other behavior seems to be as expected--just way too quiet).
I hope that makes sense. In case it matters, I'm using "Jam - No Input" with this project, but this problem also occurs if I use the other Jam modes. I'm looking forward to getting that worked out, as I think the ability to mix playback of midi clips and the JS2 brain will be a helpful feature when needing some specific drum performances that are difficult to reproduce inside JS2, while simultaneously being able to utilize the power of the JS2 brain for everything else. |

Could you send me the Sonar project so we can replicate this here? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Sure. I don't have access to it at the moment, but I'll send it along later today. |

Ralph, I've just sent you a Sonar project file that produces the Power issue mentioned above.
Also, did you receive the midi file I sent regarding the import problems I'm encountering? I've tried again with the updates that have been released, and the problem still occurs w/ JS2 v2.0.6. The error message is similar to before, but now says "MIDI Import Error: '32(x' is not a valid integer value [Note ch$9 32(x]" |
