Sounds like an issue due to you not having administrative rights. Let me check this out... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I've just sent you a new Jamstix DLL with a fix. Let me know how it works. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph, I'm in need of the same fix. I put Vista on the machine I recently built and I just loaded Jamstix on it and I'm getting the same issue.
Thanks,
JP
**********UPDATE*********
When I went to install my add-ons I realized that the User Account Control (UAC) was on. So even though I was an administrator on my machine I was still limited in what I could do. I turned it off and all is well. Thanks. |

CB, I would recommend disabling UAC versus using our fixed DLL, which can cause JS start-up delays. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. I do not wish to be offensive, but "disabling the UAC" is a lazy response. I understand that the UAC is troublesome to developers but it has been known about for several years and is integral to upgrading the security of of Windows. Since Windows is the biggest target for security attacks, Microsoft had to take action to bring the security up to snuff. One can debate whether UAC is the most elegant approach but it's an integral part of the OS and it will have to be dealt with.
Would you advise me to disable my Anti-Virus or Firewall if they caused problems with your program? I would think not.
I guess I will have to wait for Jamstix 2 or other programming update you decide to implement.
Again, please do not get angry at my response. I am just giving you a users honest perspective.
Thank you.

I fully understand your position. Unfortunately, the UAC compatibility problem is in the licensing code, which is from a 3rd party. That party has still not provided a satisfactory update to fix the issue. We have therefore switched to a new licensing system for Jamstix 2 but am stuck as far as existing Jamstix 1 licenses are concerned.
Disabling UAC can be deemed a security risk for computers that are continually on the Internet. However, many music computers are rarely or never connected to the net so that they can be configured for optimal performance, which means no background tasks like virus scanners etc.
Such computers will not benefit from UAC at all and our recommendation to remove them is the best way to go.
I'll send you the fixed DLL, hopefully it will perform satisfactorily on your PC. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I'm having the exact same issue after installing JS on a new laptop with Vista. Would it be possible to receive the dll fix? |

I have upgraded to Vista and have this same issue. Could you send me the fixed DLL so that I can use the current version of Jamstix until version 2 is available.
Many thanks. |
