| I got it to read, and it is working somewhat, the program will only play random fills every now and then but not straight beats. |

Here's a quick test:
- Add Jamstix to a track
- Click 'Free Jam'
- Play REAPER (may need to arm track and use record if it is empty)
After a few beats, Jamstix should play a groove. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I am still struggling with this fills but no beats problem. I did a keyword jam with "country" selected, set to audio jam. After playing for a while, Jamstix was playing the same thing pretty much, so I cleared the arrangement. After that, it would create an arrangement, but only play the fills. I kept trying different things. On "free jam" it would play ok, but not in a country style. When I set it back to keyword, it was back to playing only fills, but then it wouldn't create an arrangement past the first fill on bar 8. Finally, the CPU spiked to 100% and the computer froze. I was only running Jamstix and an audio track. I have had this "fills but no beats" problem several times in the past, but I don't remember how I got out of it. It usually happens when I clear the arrangement, which I probably shouldn't do. But what else can you do if you don't like what Jamstix is doing? I am running 1.81. I will try the beta.
Thanks,
John |

John, if you keep having this problem, do this: when it goes into 'fills but no beat' mode, save the state of Jamstix to a FXB file using the preset menu in REAPER or whatever host you are using and send it to me. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ralph,
I just tried with the beta. I set up the keyword jam with "country." I starting playing, and it was giving me one rhythm, "night train" over and over. I didn't like that, so I hit "clear arrangement" and started again. Nothing plays but fills. I tried free jam, but again nothing but fills.
I'll try to send you that file.
Thanks,
john |

Ralph,
I sent the file. I also got Jamstix to play beats and files as expected by going to keyword jam, clicking the arrow to move "country" out of the selection box, and then moving it back in.
I do think that Reaper's handling of VSTi states and presets is still a bit flakey. I love Reaper, but that is the part of it that i have the most trouble with.
Thanks,
John |

I've got your file. It's not a REAPER problem but in Jamstix. I'm working on it... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

The problem is that 'Clear All' with 'Reset Rhythms And Rhythm Names' checked, will also clear the rhythms selected by the keyword jam. You can fix that by unchecking that option when clearing ther arrangement.
Please also note that keyword jam in audio mode will always cycle through the rhythms with the first rhythm being played every 2nd bar. You should probably use keyword jam for 'idea jamming' only and then switch to manual jam and set the rhythm changes in the arranger manually as desired as you start developing the song. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks, Ralph. I knew I was doing something dumb. So when the rhythm patterns are cleared from a keyword jam, but you are still in keyword mode, it doesn't have anything to play in those slots? Something like that?
that would explain a lot.
Thanks,
John |

|
|
Just got Jamstix, but I'm having freezing crashes at random points when using keyboard jam using Reaper. I think the freeze always happens right when I hit a random midi trigger key after having hit several without problems. It doesn't appear to be tied to a particular keyboard trigger.
The Jamstix GUI is up when the freeze occurs. The sound keeps going during the freeze but the Reaper / Jamstix UI is locked. Even after I try to kill the process the sound and the process stick around for several minutes after the crash and then stops.
The fist message on this Cockos forum post seems like it might be describing the same problem:
http://www.cockos.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-9515.html
REAPER v1.869 - also same problem on a few previous versions
Jamstix - froze on demo version and beta 1891
Here's the end of my rzdlog.txt:
<16> VST OPEN
<16> Creating GUI...
<16> AT Logic...
<17> Line-breaking hints...
<17> Hint parameters setup...
<17> LC
On other freezes the log file text isn't always the same as above... |
