We'd like to get our first community effort started!
We want to offer a free download page with Jamstix mappings for various drum modules. We hope you guys can help us by sending us your favorite self-made mappings.
All you need to do is send us an E-mail to support@rayzoon.com with the *.rdm file(s) from your mappings folder. Please specify in your E-mail a short description of the mapping, the version of the module that you used and also how you want your name to appear in the credit.
Bring 'em on! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

ah I was wondering about this very thing.. mappings
It certainly seems that they will be critical to using Jamstix easily with different vsti's.
I was just looking into this using SampleTank with various drum sets only to discover that sets or kits by different developers are layed along the keyboard differently. Some few are really wacko, and those would need a special mapping for each darn kit.
However I did notice that in many cases it is simply a matter of the kits being mapped an octave different than the default GM map of Jamstix. I was thinking that if Jamstix could have a function to shift it's mapping by octaves, that would solve the problem quickly. So for example... I could tell Jamstix to shift it's mapping from starting on C1 to [or whatever the lowest key it uses is] to C2 and in one stroke all the relative mappings would move up [or down] an ocatve. This seems to me much faster than having to manually set each key, no? On the other hand, perhaps it should be more like a normal 'transpose' function, where you could shift the mapping by half steps and thereby get exactly the shift you desire.
Is this just a silly idea or??? |

ah good thanks for chewing
having mapping that can quickly be loaded for a given vsti and given kit in that seem very important to me.... otherwise we end up with lots of time spent creating one... thanks again |

Do you want mappings for Drum Machines? I have one for the Alesis HR-16 / 16b. _________________ Nuendo is my Huff Bag, VST's are my glue. |

|

I use Cubase SX and there are a number of ways to implement this outside of Jamstix, although I understand those who would wish to have such mapping changes included inside Jamstix to make it quicker and easier.
1. For simple things, like Octave mappings (I have a number of sample sets that map several kits basically the same but in different octaves) I use the 'track parameters' in the inspector. I know Pro Tools (LE) also has this but haven't used Jamstix with Pro Tools yet as I only have it for compatibility when I get files from elsewhere. I believe Sonar will allow this although I don't think Live has the required functions.
2. For a more complex mapping, I use Cubase drum maps. Once you have created a basic Jamstix map (I will post one when I get home if I remember) it's really easy to change the O-note to whatever is required for the module you are triggering.
Now, I use both of these for MIDI tracks that I have recorded from the output of Jamstix but they both work fine if triggering directly from a 'live' Jamstix output. Bear in mind that I tend to use my VSTis (Battery mainly) outside of the internal mapping in Jamstix - one of the main reasons I do this is to allow for modification of track parameters in the inspector, such as volume and MIDI 'compression. I find it's easier to adjust these for the kit I am using externally rather than going through each sound in detail within Jamstix or Battery.
These methods require a bit more fiddling with MIDI tracks and inputs etc but I prefer the (slightly) more flexibility it gives me. It also easily allows me to use more than one VSTi for the same beat - perhaps I'm just being a bit dated in my thinking!
regards,

Is there a place to download the mappings?
I use allot of different drom modules so this would be very helpful to me.
Thanks! Riley _________________ AMD FX55, 1GB PC3200, WD 160 and Hitachi 400BG 7200Rpm x2 HD. Live 5.0.2,SF8, Wusikstation, ManyStation, Atmosphere, Trilogy |

So far we bundle all our mappings with every Jamstix update so there is no need to download separately. We also offer some user mappings on our web site.
