Hi,

I have just got Jamstix in the group buy and am very impressed. I am struggling a little with the workflow (and a lack of time to play!).

I am a guitarist and want to record Jamstix as the accompaniment to my songs in Reaper.

I have tried Freejam and got some reasonable results (trouble pushing in to power play), but I have seen it suggested that I may be better using envelopes instead. Does anyone else use Jamstix in this way (i.e. no MIDI in my DAW project). What suggestions for a starting point - there is so much to learn !!

I am mostly making Rock / alternative style music, though I dabble in all types.

Thanks

Chip, this is a great question and I'm curious too. I've owned JamStix a long time and haven't really figured out the best way to use it. I'm actually sitting down right now with my Sonar 5 running and trying to get something out of it. Free Jam works well for fleshing out ideas but I want more control sometimes.

I once owned a Roland 505 drum machine and could create a rhythm, fill or intro in a "step" type mode, save it and then paste it wherever I needed it.

It seems Manual Jam is the way to go in this case but I'm still trying to master it. I hope others chime in with some hints as to how they got going.

Thanks.

Dave

Hi! Smile

It´s actually very easy to control different aspects of Jamstix by envelope automation.
To get you started with Reaper, I´d recommend you read up about this item in the Reaper Wiki first.
It´s here:
http://www.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/Envelopes

From there it´s a lot easier to get you going.
