Um... I just got Jamstiks. Installed it on my computer:

Windows XP SP2/Up to date
1.6GHZ Athlon
Asus A7N8X-X (NFORCE2) Motherboard
1 GHZ RAM
RME Hammerfall DSP
Cubase SX 3.02

1. I make an empty Cubase sx 3.02 project.
2. I start Jamstix
3. I create a MIDI track, and assign it to Jamstix.
4. I put in a straight quantized 'boom bap' simple rhythm in the MIDI track
5. I select 'manual jam' and 'play input'

The goal is to have a simple rhythm but have Jamstix add fills.

The problem is that Jamstix sounds drunk. It's not playing in time with the original drum pattern. If I turn on the metronome, it sounds even worse, like the person counting is late on some beats and early on others.

Is there some un-drunk slider I'm missing?

Sounds like high-latency. Jamstix has timing problems with latency over 40ms. We recommend 15ms or less. We will have an update in the near future that will improve timing in high-latency environments but there are other functions of Jamstix (jamming) that require low latency to be real-time.

I tried running lower latency and things tightened up quite a bit; it seems like it does best if you make it the primary rhythm instrument. If I load some other drum instrument and play it alongside Jamstix, even when Jamstix is playing the same MIDI notes, it tends to flam quite a bit against the other drum instruments.

Jamstix should always be outputting notes on top of the MIDI beat clock, even if it's responding to audio input. There might be a lag in response to the live input, but the timing of the drum hits themselves should line up relative to the sequencer clock, which means that latency can be completely compensated.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm reviewing Jamstix for Grooves Magazine, so please let me any updates ASAP, as I'm writing on a deadline.

Did some checking here:

- Sonar 4, Jamstix and Drumatic 3
- prerecorded MIDI track fed into both drum modules

I don't hear Jamstix being late compared to Drumatic at 12ms latency.
Any way you could send me an MP3 if you're not too busy?
