When I use my Motif for drum sounds the jam doesn't respond to velocity input. Is there a setting I need to change, or is this just the way it works?
Thanks-
-Susan
EDIT: This is no longer working with EZDrummer sounds either. The slider just stays in one place no matter how loud I play.

You'll want to check these things:
- "Jam With MIDI" is selected (lower part of interface)
- little green LED in the right bottom corner lights up as MIDI is received
- lock icon above velocity slider is NOT closed _________________ Ralph Zeuner

That's not happening. What am I forgetting? SONAR PE 6.2.1.
Thanks-

EDIT: Ok, I have it working with EZDrummer now, but still not the Motif. |

This confuses me. Getting MIDI input should have nothing to do with what sound module you are using for output.
MIDI input is determined solely by the 'MIDI Input' device selected in the Jamstix MIDI track in Sonar. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

It's the MOTU Ultralite set to Omni. That's the only MIDI interface I have other than a Tranzport. |

Please elaborate a bit more on exactly what feeds MIDI into Jamstix. MOTU is just an interface where does the actual MIDI signal come from (Motif?). _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Yes, the MIDI signal comes from the Motif, goes through the Ultralite into SONAR and echoes back out to the Motif. |

So as you play the Motif keyboard and Sonar is playing, the little green LED in the right bottom lights up in synch with your key presses but the velocity slider does not move? Is that correct? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| No, the MIDI input LED on Jamstix doesn't light. |

That means there is a routing issue on the Sonar side. Make sure the proper MIDI input channel is selected on the Jamstix MIDI track and that Input Echo/Monitoring is on. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I've tried several options. When I get home I'll post an image of how it's set up, but basically IIRC it's:
-Ultralite Omni input to Jamstix MIDI track with Input Echo On.
-Ultralite output to CH 10 (where my Motif Drums are)
I have a piano patch on the Motif through Ultralite MIDI CH 1 with Input Echo set to Auto, press Play on SONAR, Jamstix does nothing.
If I select the Jamstix MIDI track and play my keyboard I hear the Motif Drum sounds, so the MIDI is going there, just not to the Jamstix app. Needless to say, no jam happens.
This works fine with EZDrummer sounds loaded in Jamstix, BTW.
Thanks-

The fact that you hear the Motif drums when you play on the JS track makes me believe that you are in 'Manual Jam' with 'Play Input'. If so, you need to either:
- uncheck 'Play Input' and manually select a rhythm in the rhythm tab to play
- switch JS to 'Free Jam' _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I was definitely in "Free Jam". That's all I've been trying so far, and I double- and triple-checked that several times. |

I'd just love a screenshot of the MIDI track in Sonar and the Jamstix GUI (jam tab)... _________________ Ralph Zeuner
