I love Jamstix. However, I really want to get some new real drum sounds to use with it, ideally rock / pop oriented. The sounds need to work seamlessly with Jamstix.

I've little experience of using external VSTi's with Jamstix and have no idea which product would work best with it. Anyone out there got any suggestions, please? Budget is up to approx £100 ($200), maybe a little more for something really fabulous. Thanks.

Check out xlnaudio 'Addictive Drums' (they have a demo version) and EZDrummer. Also, BFD 1.5 was recently reduced to $199 and should definitely be considered as well.

Thanks. The key for me is that it sounds good "out of the box" - I get little enough time to write awful tunes as it is, can't afford to spend too much on processing the sounds. I heard a 16-bit version of BFD and wasn't as impressed as I expected to be, will check out your other suggestions.

I agree. BFD and also DFHS need a lot of treatment, which isn´t necessarily a bad thing.
But the best out-of-the-box solution to complement Jamstix is Addictive Drums, IMO.

i plan on using the ns_7 free kit when my jamstix arrives...it this a viable combination, or am i missing the point?

You would have to load the NSKit into a drum sampler to use it with Jamstix. Then you will most likely have to make a new mapping for it, as I believe that NSKit is a bit different then some. But I could be wrong, as it's been a while since I've used it. But it's a fantastic kit though if you have a sampler to run it in.
