I'm new to Jamstix, but am missing something about triggering Liveloops (or in fact user created rhythms in general). I follow the manual's tutorial on page 41 to create a simple pattern in Sonar, but because Play Input is turned off, when I hit either Play or Record in Sonar, nothing plays. How do I just create a pattern in Jamstix and listen to it to see if it's what I want? I'm fine with the Jam modes, and using Manual Mode to play back what I've recorded, but I haven't figured out how to build patterns and listen to them. I'm sure it's something very simple, but I've spent a few hours on this to no avail, so am hoping someone can give me a good 2 second answer:). Thanks! John

'Play Input' is a function that allows you to feed a MIDI drum track or live MIDI drums data to Jamstix for playback just like you would with any other drum module.

What you want is 'Manual Jam'. Set JS to manual jam, clear the arrangement and load a rhythm into the first rhythm slot (Rhythm tab-load). You can also just click some boxes in the rhythm tab to build your own pattern.

Now play/record Sonar and Jamstix will play the rhythm. If it doesn't, make sure nothing is blinking red in the bottom part of Jamstix.

Ralph, Thanks for speedy reply; I tried what you suggested, but it didn't work in Sonar. I then tried loading into MiniHost, however, and it worked, so I'm obviously a little vague as to the relationship of the MIDI tracks/audio tracks within Sonar, and how JS fits in. Usually you input MIDI data in the MIDI track (duh), and then route it out to audio, but with JS actually generating the MIDI events, I don't understand why Free Jam works, but Manual Jam doesn't. I obviously am missing something in the flow of data Crying or Very sad . Unfortunately neither the videos or manual has lifted the fog. I suppose I could just create my patterns in MiniHost, and then import them using Keyword Jam, but that seems awfully convoluted.... I just feel like I'm missing something obvious and stupid (on my part), since obviously others are using it without these problems.... John

Let's do a step-by-step:

- open Sonar, new project
- add Jamstix to synth rack
- go to the rhythm tab and various boxes in the kick and snare panels
- arm a MIDI track for recording in Sonar and record (this is to force Sonar to play an empty project)

Jamstix should now play your rhythm.
