I've read the sticky on using Jamstix and Tracktion and I've read the instruction manual, but I can't seem to get them to work together. I'm using the demo version of Jamstix and Tracktion 2.1. I can hear the drum track just fine, and it appears to be recording, but when I stop recording, there's no sound in the track. The recorded track shows no waveform that you'd would see when a signal is recorded. Tracktion seems to be producing a WAV file, but when I play back the track, there's no sound at all. I'm sure I'm making some basic mistake, but I've played around with various settings without luck.

I use Tracktion 2 as well.

I think I'm right in saying that once you've heard Jamstix playing the drums on a track, the details of what was played are held within Jamstix (unless you are triggering Jamstix sounds from a midi clip). The sounds are not recorded within Tracktion as audio, which is why you don't see an audio clip on the track. However, all you Jamstix data is saved within the Tracktion edit.

If you render (export) the track you'll hear the drums as well. Give it a try!

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the reply. As you suggested, the track does render to an audio export. But when I'm in Tracktion, Jamstix doesn't seem to allow me to play back what I placed on the track. In other words, when I play it back in Tracktion, it just seems to be running Jamstix in the background again -- not what I had intended to be recorded to the track. Jamstix continues to play even if I allow the track to play past its original end point and I'm no longer recording. I don't understand how I can use Jamstix this way if I want to lay down additional tracks, such as guitar, if I can't hear what was actually recorded in the drum track. Sorry for the complete display of newbieism on my part.

If you've been using Jam Mode, switch to manual mode to preserve what's been played, otherwise your arrangement might change. Then, go to the Arrangement tab, and right-click the cell where you want Jamstix to stop playing. You can then choose an Ending. Jamstix should then stop playing after this point.

Eric, mosts hosts do NOT allow recording the audio output of a VSTi to a track. Don't ask me why but that is the way it is. We have therefore designed Jamstix in a way that alleviates the need to record its audio. Just develop your project as you normally would. The current Jamstix arrangement is saved within your host project file and automatically recalled when you load it.

You wil likely need to fine-tune your arrangement in the Jamstix arranger before the final master. Things like muting initial bars that should be silent, setting intro and ending, adjusting fills, verifying rhythm changes and maybe even fine-tuning some rhythms.

After that, do your final audio export of the project and the Jamstix audio will be in there as needed.

If you must have an audio track of JS data before that, use bounce or freeze. Those are functions in most hosts specifically designed to create audio clips from VSTi audio output.
