|
|
Hi
Now that Sonar PE 5.2 has Midi out from Instruments, could someone please explain how to set up Jamstix to play BFD within Sonar?
I have Jamstix installed as a VSTi - do I need to install the DXi version?
I have loaded Jamstix into the Synth Rack, then BFD (DXi, cause the VSTi doesn't show the right outputs) but I can't see where to set Jamstix's output to play BFD.
Cheers for any help.

It's the other way around: you set the BFD input to Jamstix as follows:
- make sure MIDI output is enabled on Jamstix in the synth rack
- open input options on the BFD MIDI track and Jamstix should be listed. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Zauni, cheers for getting back so fast.
I am now inserting Jamstix into the Synth Rack with Midi Out ticked in the options box. I load BFD (DX or VSTi) and in the MIDI track I can select Jamstix as an output, but not an input - all I am getting is....
None
Fireface 400 Midi
Presets
Manage Presets.
Where am I going wrong?
This is on 5.2 with the latest VST wrapper too.
Thanks for any help. |

I don't know, I only got Sonar yesterday and so am not au fait with its workings yet. |

I just asked because many people have DirectiXer which works alongside the Cakewalk wrapper but DX-wrapped VSTi cannot send MIDI output the CW VST way.
Anyway, if you insert Jamstix using the new CW VST wrapper and check the MIDI Output box then you need to see 'Jamstix' in any MIDI track input list. If not, I recommend contacting Cakewalk tech support for assistance. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Okay, dokey. Thanks again for you help, I'll ask the Cakewalk forum to see if this has came up before.
Cheers.

Okay, I trawled through the forum and found out that if the Midi Input isn't picked up for your VSTi then you have to use the VST Configuration Wizard to re-scan the plug-ings.
This worked for me, now the input is visible, I have BFD loaded up on a MIDI track with Jamstix as input, BFD as output but when I start Sonar playing, the transport in Jamstix doesn't start.
Is this something you know how to fix or should I post over at the Cakewalk forum?
Thanks man.
PS I just tried it in Cubase SX3 and it works fine. |

Thanks for keeping us updated, I'll put this in the Sonar thread as well.

Make sure there are no blinking LEDs in the Jamstix bottom near the play button and jam mode selector. Let me know if there are. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I had a check and there are no blinking LEDs.
Is this good? |

Yes, no blinking is good.
You do have Jamstix in the synth rack, not an audio track, right?
If you want to, send me the CWP to support[at]rayzoon.com and I'll have a look. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Yes, Jamstix is defrinately in the Synth Rack alongwith BFD and Akoustic Piano and the Midi Out is enabled so that I can select it as an input now.
I've sent you over the CWP file so that you can spot the obvious mistake.
Thanks a lot for this help.

I looked at your CWP and you seem to have deleted the Jamstix MIDI and audio tracks that Sonar created when you first inserted Jamstix into the synth rack. As a result, Sonar is no longer sending song position data to Jamstix.
Make sure you always leave the Jamstix MIDI track that Sonar creates in place to avoid this problem. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for looking into it Zauni.
I did a bit of messing around trying to get things working and I thought it was ok to delete the MIDI track created when inserting Jamstix and just use any other one with the same results.
Also because I don't use the Jamstix samples, I just open Jamstix with no audio tracks.
I am not at the DAW at the moment, but I will check this out first thing in the morning/afternoon. Thanks very much.
On a side note, the reason I pester you so much with my problems is that Jamstix is now my one and only beat creator/rythym arranger/metronome and I couldn't operate without it. Great work mate. Just thought I'd let you know.

Cool, I got things working.
I just did what I was doing yesterday, but kept the Jamstix MIDI track. I don't know if this is what was wrong but it doesn't matter cause I am now able to use Jamstix again.
Cheers for the help Zauni.
