Last night I recorded an audio track, tweaked some parameters in Jamstix, plugged in audioM8 and got a downright useable drum track in my first ever free jam. I am still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor, of course. For the last few weeks I have been using the Jamstix drum sounds with "Mute Brain" on and controlling it through MIDI outs, but I think those days are over Very Happy

My question:
When I went to the end of the jam and chose the MIDI export feature, it only exported a few bars. I must have done something really stupid, so I throw myself at the mercy of the Forum. Can I export an entire arrangement to a MIDI file? Did I miss something reading the manual (It's been known to happen)?

Frankly, all that needed tweaking from my jam were the intro, ending and some fill patterns, it was that good. So, if I could export stuff like that it would pretty much make life with Cubase a whole lot more pleasant. Also, I'm going to wait about six months until I upgrade to Cubase 4, I hope that JS2 will still be compatible with version SL/SX3.

Thanks again, and I must say openly on this Forum that Ralph's support when I was making my decision to purchase Jamstix was a singularly pleasant experience. His competence and diligence are utterly unique in today's world.

Someone else reported a similar issue and we are looking into it. Generally, after playing through an arrangement, it should export fine to a MID file.

As a work-around, since you are using Cubase, why not just record the Jamstix MIDI output to a MIDI track in Cubase as it plays? That's actually more convenient than the file export, which was implemented for hosts that cannot record VSTi MIDI output.

Ray -

Could you BE any more responsive? I don't think that's possible...

THANK YOU. By the way, I purchased the Brush pak so now I have all your kits and man do they sound good. Please keep your business model exactly as is so you can continue to make such great stuff at affordable pricing Laughing

Rob

p.s. I guess later I'll have to crack the manual (or yours AND Steinberg's) and figure out how to record the MIDI ouput from JS into Cubase. Digital recording is sort of a new frontier for me.

It's easy: just add a new MIDI track and set it to input=Jamstix. Arm it for recording and off you go.

OK, I guess I won't have to crack a manual. Thanks for putting up with my boneheaded questions, Ralph Embarassed

I spoke too soon. Created a MIDI track, set it to "Record" with Jamstix as my input, "Midi thru active" is checked in my Cubase preferences, but when I play I don't get a recording of the MIDI output from Jamstix Embarassed

Makre sure 'Enable MIDI Output' is checked in the Outputs tab of Jamstix. Also make sure you don't use 'Play' in Cubase but 'Record'.

Well, Ralph - I let the jam play all the way through and stopped it right after the last measure. This time the MIDI export feature worked brilliantly, the whole jam came into Cubase flawlessly. So, that is of IMMENSE use to me.

Now I have to figure out why in the heck I can't record to MIDI! I haven't had any problems step sequencing in the past, and since I switched the input mode from Step to MIDI in and chose Jamstix as my input Cubase should have picked it right up.

However, now that I know I can export my finished arrangements I am in very good shape. By the way, since I have all your add-on paks I wonder if you could recommend a kit for hard driving guitar-based 1970's style Pop/Rock? Something with a nice fat snare, think along the lines of Bad Company, Boston, Foghat, etc. I wondered if there was a preset I could load and get that sort of vibe without creating my own kit.

Thanks again for your help Very Happy

I'd let other users chime in on that one, you may even wish to post a separate thread for that.
