Hi Ralph and crew...
As a long time user of Jamstix, I recently shifted over from using SONAR as my DAW to using PT 7.1 LE. I was using Jamstix in this DAW, but I had to "wrap" it, and there was some issues. I recently got a copy of Digidesigns Strike program, and now, I am sorry to say, it has become my "drummer" of choice....I would suggest that for your next version of JS, you might want to make it useable as a RTAS plug-in, so that I can start using it in PT 7! It would be nice to be able to use a program that i am already familiar with, instead of learning a new one. Also, there are some really cool features on the mixing side of Strike that would be really cool to look at for your next version of JS.

Unfortunately, Digi has still not considered us worthy of any e-mail responses so we cannot get the RTAS SDK and, thus, cannot develop a RTAS version of Jamstix.

Ralph

Speaking from a business perspective, I think you would probably get a better response through a more personal contact than email. Even a telephonce call is preferable to email - especially during the initial pstages of contact.. Better still, a face-to-face approach, maybe at an exhibition, or something like that.

Email is a fine tool for instant communication between parties who have already established a rapport, but it really isn't very good from a 'cold call' aspect.

Regards

Digidesign has a specific process for plugin developers to apply for the RTAS SDK that we have followed precisely and followed up on.

Remember that Digidesign has just released 'Strike' and thus likely has no interested in having Jamstix compete with it, especially not at $139 for Jamstix (Jamboree) versus $299 for Strike.

Kudos to Steinberg for making the VST interface available to everyone...

Fair enough - I didn't know what the requirements were and you've obviously done all you could.

Since I have no interest in their products, I didn't know about Strike - but you do have a point Smile .

Well, yes, but then they didn't have a hardware division to support. It will be interesting to see if they are quite so free in the future, following the link with Yamaha.

Perhaps we could all jot our names down in a petition to send to digi in order for this to happen?

You can license the wrapper from FXpansion as many other companies including Wizoo have done -- the end user thinks it's an RTAS plug-in when it's simply a wrapped VSTi.

That's true, and I'm sure they'd be willing to help port it to OSX too.

I'm sure Digidesign will loosen the straps on development soon. As good as many people feel pro tools is, they must be losing out to the Steinbergs and Cakewalks of the world who have demonstrated tremendous improvement in their flagship audio applications. Sooner or later they'll realize there is a lot of money to be had in getting as much 3rd party product support as possible. We'll all be seeing the gaps is product design start to close up here in the new half decade or so. Companies will be forced to co-exist and place nice, or they won't be playing at all.
