Here's the official skinny on Jamstix 2:
Release Date: 8/20/2007
Release Announcement
At this point, the main changes from Jamstix 1 will be:
- Style Modeling - styles will be intelligently modeled
- Player Modeling - on top of the selected style, player models will introduce habits and idiosyncrasies
- Simplicity - the interface will be easier to use...and prettier
- Structure - the arranger will be section-based rather than bar-based so the structure of a song can be easily defined and handled.
- Odd Time Signatures - we've got some good stuff coming in that arena
- Sound Flexibility - the kit control will be easier to use and even more flexible (i.e. mixing internal and external sounds)
- Sample Caching - internal samples can now be cached (load on demand)
- Visual Kit - visual kit with hit animation and edit links
- Enhanced Limb Control - includes exact triangulating of drum distances and speed calculations, same-drum transition times as well as look-ahead priority filtering
- MIDI Drag&Drop - song, part or bar MIDI can now be dragged and dropped into the host
- Groove Timing - sophisticated style-based groove timing will increase realism
- Controller Mapping - instead of VST automation, many functions can be mapped to a controller for greater flexibility. This includes assigning multiple functions to one controller and the ability to inverse the control range
- 3-Band EQs (Mixer) - EQ settings are stored with the kits as well

| Feb 2007... A year can go by so fast. Actually, only 8 months until this estimated release date. I can't believe it's already June! |

It's a 60% discount *off* regular price, so you would pay more if you only had a 50% discount!
60% *off* something is the same as 40% *of* something.
Unless the announcement is incorrect.
Cheers,
Randy |

Well, that's another copy sold already then! Er... that is, if the price is somehow comparable to the current price of Jamstix 1... I mean, if version 2 wil cost 400 bucks I will have to think about it some more... Considering all improvements and new additions I suspect the price WILL be a lot more, but I'm sure it will be reasonable and (above all) worth it! |

With GA3 and other virtual drummers on the horizon, I have updated the top post to show the basic cornerstones of our Jamstix 2 development.
Also, we have shifted all development efforts to Jamstix 2 at this time. If all goes well we may be able to pull the Feb 07 estimated release forward a bit. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Does this mean Jambassist is on hold?

Who wants GA?! It is nowhere near as sophisticated as your application, though it looks a bit more stylish. It wouldn't hurt to not only make the interface simpler in J2, but also a bit more sexy. Personally I am fine with the current look, but commercial-wise that might be very interesting. The software companies I worked for often underestimated the impact it has on the sales cycle. The same goes for the website. But maybe all this is a European thing.
Where can we pre-order to support and speed up development?! Just kidding, looking forward to J2, the new direction looks promising. Good luck with the development. Lucky |
