Ralph,
I am having a problem like the one from AntonyR (see below)and would like to record to a midi track as you suggest but -Jamstix not showing as a midi input option in my sonar 4.0 pro- I recall that when I installed the demo there was a choice to install a loopback driver. I did not see this option installing the full product. I would love to try Jamstix with my next client session that starts Friday Am but I really need to edit at the midi level.
Thanks for the great programing!

So if I Jam with Audio and the levels are good - and I get hats, kick and snare being generated and stored in the arrangement tab. And then at the end of the song I stop and export Midi without anything playing at that time (if it was, midi export would get confused as the last bar would keep moving right), what does it actually export after an Audio Jam that is different from a Midi Jam?

It actually plays again quickly from bar 1 through the current bar to create the export. That's why real-time factors outside of Jamstix cannot affect the export. This is rather a tool to get an arrangement quickly out of Jamstix not a full-blown jam, for which recording MIDI-out is the way to go.

I have looked at the manual and am unclear how Jamstixs routes midi to the host as an alternative. If I have the Enable Midi Output ticked, how do I get the midi to be recorded on a midi track in Cubase SX? Is it sent to Midi Channel 10 by default and I just need to hit record on a track that is midi channel 10 enabled?

Just add a MIDI track, set Jamstix as the input and record.

Hi, Ralph! The loopback driver option is not in the Jamstix installation. It sounds like the DirectiXer installation. Look at your Sonar 4 MIDI inputs for 'DirectiXer Loopback'. If you don't see it, uninstall/reinstall DirectIxer and make sure to choose this option during installation.

Above the Jamstix GUI in the DirectiXer frame window, click the 'Send MIDI To Host...' button and add a MIDI track with 'DirectiXer Loopback' as the input.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem with Sonar 4 PE. Jamstix does not show up as a MIDI input option. Is there another way besides having to buy DirectIxer? Or is it worth it? Thanks

Well, this is really a Sonar limitation. It doesn't support VST natively and its VST wrapper doesn't support MIDI out. If you are not "married" to Sonar you could consider Tracktion, which has much better MIDI routing and VST support right out of the box and is only $80 IIRC.

Personally, I love Sonar and bought the DirectiXer because it offers much more stable VST support than the CW VST wrapper and gives me the MIDI-Out support.

Well, let's just say it would be an expensive divorce if I moved away from Sonar. Laughing I do love the program, though. And I really do like what I'm discovering with Jamstix, so I guess I'll bite the bullet on DirectiXer.

Do I have to uninstall the CW VST adapter first? Do you have any tips on how to make it work with Sonar and Jamstix?

Thanks

No, the two will happily coexist. When you add a VST that is registered in both, the difference is that CW VST-wrapped plugs show up in the VST submenu whereas DirectiXer-wrapped plugs show up in the main insert menu above the separator line.

Do you mean DirectiXer? Simply open Jamstix in DirectiXer and check the 'Alternate Window Sizing Method' option in the properties.
