Hi there,

I'm trying to make jamstix jam along with a midi in a live situation. I'm using a 'dumb' keyboard, or midi controller with sounds supplied by either a soundfont or VSTi, and using n-Track 4.2.1. If I route this midi channel to jamstix, the sound disappears, and if I route it to the soundcard's synth (SBLive) the sound disappears and jamstix doesn't receive the signal. Am I trying to do something I just can't do?

Any help appreciated!

This has to do with routing MIDI to multiple tracks in n-Track. In most hosts it is a track option called 'Echo' or 'Monitor'.

I'm sorry I don't know more about n-Track but the folks over at the n-Track forum are generally very helpful and there are several Jamstix users active.

"Instrument plug-ins can be used to play a MIDI instrument live (i.e. let the VST/DX instrument output in realtime the notes you play on a MIDI keyboard).
To enable the live playing through an instrument plug-in enable the Live input processing mode by pressing the Live button on the toolbar, check the Connect input to output option in the Preferences/MIDI/MIDI devices dialog box and set the Echo mode to either ‘auto’ or ‘manual’ (if the echo mode is set to manual you’ll have to select the desired instrument plug-ins in the output drop down box)."

"Keep devices open: when this option is checked the program will always keep the MIDI devices open, and no other program will be able to access them when n-Track is running. When this option is unchecked it’s not possible to route the MIDI input to one of the outputs (for example to play with a MIDI keyboard)"

Interesting. Thanks for helping. It looks like I have it set up correct, but there is no 'connect input to output' to check in the current version...

don't worry , this option does not exist even in the latest version

if Jamstix is receiving midi notes and your midi notes are in the right octave , it should work in Manual Mode/Play Input
