i testing the demo and i have to admit that i ejoy jamstix very much..
i think i will purchase in some days... i'm just waiting for some paypal payment in order to use my credit...
but i still have some minor doubts about jamstix phylosophy... perhaps somethin will be changed in future release, so i'm writing here...
1) i have to admit i'm not very satisfied about the choice of a proprietary soundformat for the samples... why not wave samples, so that, in the case, i can use them also in an external drum module with other samples?
is there a particular reason for this? also the drumpaks in the jamstix proprietary format?
2) about the rhtym "learn" function (i write few bars of GM drums and let jamstix learn my groove idea). it works only for GM drum mapping, is it right? would not be better to use, instead of the GM mapping, the mapping that i use with jamstix itself?
the point is that using an external module with a custom sample mapping, different from GM standard, the "learn" function is very limited.... since one cannot use the "export" midi, make manual modifications, and "reload" it into jamstix by the "learn" function. or simply "play" its MIDI rhtym idea with that kit...
will this be changed in future releases?
(but is also true that one can re-map all its drumkits to the standard GM... )
3) i don't understand if it is possible to "combine" jamstix samples with custom WAVE samples.... for example, if i like one JS snare (from snarepak, for example), but i want to use my own kik, hats and cymbals, can i just replace JS cymbals with my WAVE samples??
this refers also to my question about "proprietary" sample format...
4) the top (that would solve both point 1 and 3) would be a dedicated "jamstix drumset editor", in which one can make its own drumkits using all JS samples (maybe even in its proprietary format) and MY own wave samples... this could also promote kit exchange by users...
it this planned in the future?
5) in the arranger window, is there the possibilty to "Loop" between two points (ex: play from bar 10 to bar 17 continuously), in orded to avoid the synch problem with the sequencer which dont' recognize the loops? (btw, i was wrong in my previous message, with sonar 4 the bar sync is OK... it doestn work correctly only if you don't start from the beginning of the bar, i think...)
...or after all these doubts am i missing something?!? _________________ listen to my music at

Jamstix (and the Paks) use a proprietary format for various reasons, including the fact that Jamstix uses a 3-channel and 4-channel audio signals that you are unlikely to find in any drum sound wave collection out there, which are mostly mono or stereo.
Furthermore, Jamstix allows you to use 3rd party sounds by subhosting a sample player of your choice (Battery, sfz, etc.) so you do not need the internal audio engine to use other samples.

The LEARN function is really just a rudimentary function to get the gist of a GM pattern into Jamstix for further processing. A Learn/Export/Re-learn workflow does not seem to be sensible to me.
Jamstix 2 will extend learning capabilities but the full extent and specifics of it are not available at this time.

Yes, you can do that by removing all internal sounds except the ones you want to use and then routing the MIDI output of Jamstix to another sample player that has the other sounds you want to use (just remove the sounds that JS is supposed to play).

You can do this as described above.

The true solution is for Cakewalk to fix this bug. However, you can use LiveLoops in Jamstix to force looping. See the manual for details including a nice tutorial by Greg Holmes. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

got the point...
howver, now also external drum module supports multi-channel waves, expecially for surround features... for example kontakt2 library have some surround samples with 6 channel (5+1)
nevertheless, i really think that a jamstix drum editor, can be a great addition, expecially now with the epak, and expecially for pomoting kit exchange by users! _________________ listen to my music at

or, at least, some wave -> jamstix sample converter, so that one can load a single custom sample (but what multi-velocity sample sets...!?) into a prefab soundset..
i think on monday i will buy... so that i have all the week to download the huge datas from my office... _________________ listen to my music at
