I am a Groove Agent 2 user, and I also got jamstix. I've been very happy with JS, but I wish I could play it a bit more like an instrument. It's neat how it can "jam" with you, but I want to have more control over what comes out, and I'm not a big point and click fan in the arranger. It's a bit cumbersome working through each measure.

I want to know just how much real-time control I can get from sliders and the keyboard. I've got funkiness, complexity and velocity controlled by sliders, and I have start/stop from the keyboard. What about toggling half-time, high-hat frequency, variation, etc from the keyboard? I see occassional mention of other CC's (CC#4 for hi-hat?), trigging fills/intro/outro and stuff but I don't see any of this in the manual.

This is one area where GA shines - once you find a style you like, you can manipulate many parameters in a song start to finish to get a full drum track. I'm almost there with jamstix, but not quite Smile

Tips?

We are working on a concept/mode that gives you a lot of control over the Jamstix brain with just the keyboard. That's all I can say at this point. Stay tuned.

Great news. Jamstix has so many great features and solid sound. This will be a great upgrade for me because I don't use it live - I use it to carve out realistic drum tracks. Great software, thanks!

Incedentally, if you are looking for ideas or beta testers I can help.

Bump. I am hoping some users will give me some ideas here on how they use jamstix when they aren't jamming but want to lay down a canned track.

The closest I have come is to set my MIDI controllers to control funkiness and complexity. I decided to not automate velocity since sticking audiom8 on the output bus seems to give more realistic results, although I have to tweak the threshold knob.

I then use liveloops with a number of patterns preset in one bar lengths. I then line up these liveloops in groups - e.g. first four loops are mellow standard rhythms, second four loops are mellow upbeat rhythms (e.g. going double), second four loops are good chorus rhythms, and then set up a number of one measure fill loops.

Any other tips?

Jam_fan, we have just released beta 1841 with a brand-new jam mode, called 'Keyboard Jam' that gives you extensive control over rhythm changes, performance aspects, fills etc via the MIDI keyboard and also let's you use the mod wheel to adjust velocity as well as mute Jamstix (mod wheel all the way down) and go to power play (mod wheel all the way up).

Let us know how you like this new mode!
