Folks,
I'm a complete newbie to Jamstix, but since some folks in the BFD forum SWEAR by it, I figured I would download the demo and give it a try. I love what I'm seeing so far.

Here's my deal. I followed the 6 step set up process I found on a thread on this forum. My question is around live monitoring. I use Sonar, so I can record the midi data, press "play", and then I can hear the groove. I just haven't figured out how to live monitor the drums yet, and I need your help.

I press "record" on my BFD all midi channel in Sonar. Upon doing this, Jamstix begins to play what I've set up in the Jamstix demo, but I can't hear it. I can see the midi "dots" being recorded as the groove plays, but I can only hear it once I've stopped the record, rewind and press "play".

I'm sure it's something stupid I'm overlooking. Can anyone help me to ensure that I can live monitor the drums in Sonar? I'm really digging this program and once I get it figured out I'm going to select "buy" today!!

I am assuming you have BFD and Jamstix loaded separately in the synth rack (please note that you can also load BFD straight into Jamstix).

Maybe you forgot to select 'Jamstix Omni' as the MIDI input of the BFD MIDI track?

How would I load BFD straight in Jamstix? I current have it open sep. on the synth rack.

I have my BFD output set to my master audio channel.

I did not check the "omni" setting, however; I'm not sure that I could record the midi notes if this wasn't the case, could I? Jamstix is recording the groove on the BFD all midi channel. I just can't hear the drums until after I stop the recording and go back and press play. The playback is coming from BFD- through the recorded midi notes on the BFD all midi channel. any help would be greatly appreciated

That is weird. I've done the same here as follows (Sonar 5.2):

- add Jamstix (check 'Enable MIDI output') and set to 'Free Jam'
- add BFD All, select kit
- select 'Jamstix'->'Omni' on BFD MIDI track and arm track
- press 'Record' in Sonar

After a few beats I hear BFD playing the notes and they are getting recorded.

If you want to try BFD in Jamstix, please go to the mapping tab, click "Load" and select 'BFD All Outputs'. No need for any further setup nor for loading BFD into Sonar.
