It would allso be great if we could have a step seq for the ride (like the toms)

But as always, an excellent idea

Yes, except we aren't really happy with the tom panel to begin with as Jamstix is trying hard not to be a step sequencer.

Ahhh, now that I've heard this from the horse's mouth things make more sense. That's a great philosophy and it helps me to understand where you are coming from with the Quarter, Eighths, Sixteenths thing and the reasons that the snare, kick, hats and toms are programmed differently. OK, bearing that in mind I will approach the making of rhythms with a new eye and I expect things will fall into place better. Here I was thinking that Rayzoon had made a quite convoluted way to specify notes in the rhythm tab but now that I know, it all makes more sense!

On the other hand, maybe an option to use a step sequencer paradigm may help some people, who like me, don't get it the first time around? I don't need this now as I've become reasonably comfortable with the way things are and have been starting to see why it's a good way to go but for those of us who are not really drummers and have become comfortable with the step way it might make for a smoother learning curve.

One thing I think is not absolutely clear at first is that, in the hi-hats for example - selecting a square sets a probability based on the sliders rather than a deterministic beat. I at first thought that the probabilities were extra to the selected squares rather than related to them and I spent a while scratching my head trying to work out why I got the beats I did - and why .

Just a couple of thoughts.

cheers,

John

Hey
Back to the subject of this thread...

I think it is unanamous that the Rythym Sets are a GREAT idea!

This original thread was posted ages ago and I've (we've) been waiting for the rythym sets all that time!

How far off is this feature??

You crack me up, Paspallum Smile The thread was started a month ago. If you really expect a free new feature to be implemented within 30 days of us asking about its usefulness then I'm afraid we've spoiled you rotten...Smile

Yeah, but... what about the times when you'd like to say "Hey Jamstix, I want you to play exactly *this* for this one measure"?

I haven't hit that point yet, but only because I've not recorded the other bits that go along with it. There are some points where I already have the exact drum part I want already in my head...

We know. We're working on concepts for Jamstix 2 that marry rule-based rhythm editing with a final optional layer of low-level hand editing. This is currently being tested in JamBassists.

I dont know how you go about the programming for JS 2, but if possible, could you take the grooves, and way that they are used, from Led Zep, Beatles, Queen,BB king blues, James Brown funk etc... etc----Almost like in Band in a box , where you have stylemakers. If you nailed that and the jamming to structure thingyy, then Jamstix would be flawless Smile

Yep, you are right.... you have spoiled us rotten.

But when you put out such a great idea aren't you glad that it is so popular? That's better than people saying "Oh how boring... I don't want that" (Isn't it?)

You can't come up with such brilliant ideas and not expect people to want them ASAP!

I'll wait (I have no choice) But I'm still looking forward to this function with a lot of excitement.

Sorry for sounding too 'greedy'.. it's just.. when you get a 'teaser' of what's to come... well you want it now.

I know you guys work real hard. And you do a great job.

But one other point... if you are like me (and many Jamstix Jammers are) I paid up for my Jamstix v1.0 and I'll be paying for Jamstix V2 the week it comes out... I don't think of things as 'free' features... I think you guys deserve to get paid for making such a great digital instrument... and I'm happy to pay.
