Starting a new tread here hoping to get the attention from other Reaper users
Can anyone tell me if previewing fills and rythms is working for them in Reaper. I'm thinking of swichting from Cubase to some other host since Cubase gives me a lot of headaches. Reaper seems very promising but not being able to preview fills and rythms in jamstix is very inconvinient.

| noticed this myself the other day, but then it fixed itself somehow... not sure what changed, but have a feeling it has to do with the link between the transports of reaper and jamstix... am going to be playing with it tonight, will see what happens and let u know |

DrJ:
Good to know it is working for you now...
I think i t has to do with reaper not playing without events (just like Sonar). In order to get jamstix to play I have to insert an empty event in the jamstix track.
Preview is working as long as the host is playing but that means that JS is playing too and that means I hear the preview playing on top of the rythm JS is playing at that moment.
Previewing should also work when the host is not running. Does it do that for you? |

| just checked it out then, seems to be working fine - can preview rhythms and fills etc without a running host... am actually running the latest beta (.954) though, so you might want to try that one and see what happens. |

Well that's strange. Do you have to insert an empty event in the JS track in Reaper to get JS running? Js has to be inserted as a track effect right? Or am I missing something? Im running the latest beta too btw.
I don't get it. Whjere is JS installed on your machine? In the Reaper plugin directory? Doubt it will make a difference but mine is in the cubase plugin directory. Maybe I should try reinstalling JS...
Ralph, any thoughts on this maybe? |

| hmm, now i'm confused... have inserted an empty event into the track otherwise JS wont run at all, but i dont need the host to be playing to audition rhythms... will have a play tonight and see if something comes to mind! |

Someone in the Reaper forum has the solution. Got everything working now. If anyone wants to know here is what he posted:
Hi Guys
The Jamstix preview function works for me if I do the following:
- Load Jamstix up as a VSTi
- Arm the channel (press the channel record button)
- Place the 'cycle input monitoring' button into the 'on' position (icon looks like a small speaker)
- Right click the Jamstix channel VU meters and select 'Record channel output'
- Bring up Jamstix. Go to the 'Rhythm' tab and press the 'Load' button
- Select a Rhythm and click on the 'preview' icon (musical note icon in the middle of the dialog)
- Thats it - Jamstix will now preview the selected ryhthm out through the channel without play being pressed
- When you find a rhythm you like, press the 'Load button' to load it into Jamstix, and then press Reaper's play button to kick things off.
Hope that helps!
Cheers
