|
|
Hi Ralph,
I tried updating to 1.6 last night and got an immediate error message "Jamstix 1.6 has encountered a serious error and needs to close" or something like that (I'll get the exact message wording tonight).
I've re-downloaded the update and will try again this evening but I wondered if this could be because I have moved my Jamstix folder (inc. the DLL, samples etc.) to a new external hard drive?
Any thoughts?
Thanks, |

Likely cause is the folder move. Please use SAVIHost or MiniHost to load Jamstix and it will likely ask you for the new location. Once set, it should load fine in other hosts as well.
Also, make sure you move the entire Jamstix folder, not just some subfolders of it. Just the DLLs should be left behind. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Aha, I moved the entire folder including the DLL. Would it be better to move the DLL back (i.e. leave all the samples, rhythms etc. on the new disk)?
When you say "load fine in other hosts" it's not loading Jamstix that's the problem - it's that I cant run the update .exe - it fails immediately. JS 1.5 has been loading fine into Cubase once I repointed Cubase to the new plugin location (I was prompted as soon as I fired up Cubase after the folder move).
Sorry, not familiar with SAVIHost or MiniHost ??? |

For this time I would move the whole Jamstix folder back. Afterwards try again to update to 1.6
Minihost (www.tobybear.de) is a very small VST host that you can use for easy jamming (or simply for updatind) because it is light on CPU resources and easy to handle.
Concerning the move of the Jamstix folder:
After updating move the whole Jamstix folder to the new location except for jamstix.dll and audioM8.dll which should remain in the Steinberg VST folder. |

Thanks Doc.
Unfortunately, I still have the same problem. I moved the entire Jamstix folder back into the VST Plugins folder (from whence it came) and tried the update. Same message "Jamstix_Update_1.6 has encountered a serious problem and needs to close".
Looks like I've really screwed myself with this move . . . . any more ideas? Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall without losing my arrangements, mappings etc.?
Thanks, |

Hmm in this case a fresh re-install seems best.
Make sure to save your mappings folder in a special place.
After the reinstallation you simply move it in the Jamstix folder again.
Arrangements are normally stored in the project of your host, so you won´t lose them either. |

OK Doc, thanks again.
Is there a specific deinstall process or do I just delete the folder? Are there any registry entries which need to be got rid of?
I'm getting even more nervous now . . . . . |

Doc, one more thing. On reinstalling I guess I need to install the original version of Jamstix (from when I purchased it) then apply Drumpacks 1, 2 and Snarepack, then update straight to JS 1.6?
Thanks, |

The deinstallation follows the normal routine from the Software Manager in Windows. No hidden registry entries to get rid of. |

Don´t know which version of Jamstix you initially purchased. To be safe I´d do the original version, then update to 1.6, then apply the packs. |

The Jamstix 1.6 updater will be enough. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
