I am considering buying Jamstix--it seems to be exactly what I need.
When you "jam" with Jamstix, does it pretty much play one beat over and over with variations and fills, or does it follow the groove of your playing? For example, if I change the rhythm of a song and play a bar or two of syncopated hits, will it follow me and accent those hits? Or will I have to go in and edit the data after the fact to make it do this? What's the simplest way to make this happen?
Also, how flexible is the jazz/brush rhythm--can I create realistic and varied jazz drum tracks, or is it very limited?

In MIDI jam mode, Jamstix will detect hits and accent them. This may take some practice, hit at least 4 or 5 keys simultaneously to get there.
The rhythms that Jamstix creates during a MIDI jam are not based on what you play. That is decided by the settings in the jam controls of Jamstix. What it does with your MIDI input is analyze your volume to control the drum velocity and analyze your harmonic play to assign rhythms to bars. This way it can use up to 16 rhythm aligned with your play. And, as I mentioned, some instant 'add-ons' like hits are also created based on MIDI input.
The best way to evaluate this is to try the Jamstix demo.

This really is the best advice. Jamstix operates in such a different way to any other software you will have used and it's not easy to describe that operation in a couple of short paragraphs.
Download the demo and play around with it for a couple of hours. Unless you're really into looping, I'll be surprised if you don't get hooked. |
