Hi,
Bought Jamstix a week or two ago and love it. But I am trying to replace SlicyDrummer on an older song with Jamstix, but I can't seem to re-create the original beat.
The song has a 6/8 signature, and in Jamstix counts up to the 3rd beat so Jamstix doesn't run out. The problem is with the little snare roll right at the end of the measure. There are 3 snare hits there, two are very close to the end of the measure, and the last is right on the start of the next measure. In SlicyDrummer the resolution is set to 32T and then the snare hits are on consecutive slots. Note that in the snare roll the beats go from softer to louder. Here is a short mp3 to demonstrate:
Six Eight
I use Jamsix 1.42 in Sonar 5.01 PE.
Thanks in advance for any help!

So is this not possible with Jamstix? I am sure someone knows how to do this...?

I don't have Jamstix in front of me, but to get the last 16th of the bar you need to click on the "pre 16th" of the 1st quarter note. If you need to get to 32nd resolution you can double the tempo and work from there. _________________ darcyb62 |

Doubling the tempo in Sonar will cause other issues for me (unrealted to Jamstix), so it is not an ideal solution for me.
I wonder if I can manually edit an accent file to get higher resolution beats (say, set the beat at 94 instead of 92). Did anyone else try something like that before?

Hi,
IIRC a 6/8 rhythm normally has 36 ticks/bar in Jamstix.
So you wouldn't need better timing resolution for your rhythm, as the three snare hits are precisely on ticks #34, #35 and #0 (of the next measure).
Good luck! |

Yes, you are right, in SD, there are exactly 36 divisions in one measure at the 32T setting (when using 6/8 time signature in Sonar).
So how would I create that beat then in Jamstix? I tried all the variations of 16th Before and 16th After, but cannot seem to get the right beat. Would I have to edit the accent file (or another file) manually in this case?
Thanks for any help!

I guess you'd have to make an accent file that defines these snare hits and then get js to play that accent every measure.
But that's just a guess. I'm only starting on this, just like you
I'd be interested to hear more experienced users on this subject.
In fact, I'm supposed to come up with a 12/8 track -with snare-rolls- by next wednesday ("sure, no problem, i can do that" ), so.... |

I can get pretty close but it's not quite 100%.
Here's how I have set it up....
Kick 1 2 3 4
quarter x
eigth
16th before
16th after
Snares 1 2 3 4
quarter
eigth x
16th before x
16th after
Hihats I've just set to foot...
Now here's the kicker...
I've set up a track to automate the ghost parameter on snares...
Keep it 0, until you want those extra betas and pop it up to 1, drop it back to 0 right after... The problem with this method is that you hav eto set this up manually for each bar of the song, which will definately be tedious. _________________ darcyb62 |

The problem is that the rhythm editor in Jamstix only supports 16th at the moment. JS2 will allow 32nds. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Sounds good. Any ETA on JS2 at this point?

No ETA I'm afraid. We'll know more after Jam Bass and Jamcussion are released. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
