Hey all,

I am trying out jamstix and am interested in jamming (no surprise-smile), but I can't get any signal from the secondary plug-in. I am using pro tracks plus (sonar oem with my GNX4). Any ideas? I am using the directix or whatever. It loads, I put the secondary plug-in on, put it on jam, put on the jam from audio. I have hit alot of other buttons, but nothing happens (in response to me that is) except some nice drumming.

David

When you say 'secondary plugin', do you mean audioM8?

There is a 'Free jam Quick Start' PDF in your Jamstix manual folder with detailed instructions on setting up an audio jam in Sonar.

Let me know if you're still stuck after reading that.

Yes, I downloaded and printed that, have read through the forums and tried a few things, and basically probably messed things up by trying a bunch of buttons (though you do seem to have a reset in most important places), but in the end it will jam, but the little light that shows that the plug in is "hearing" does not light. After I have added the m8 plug in and I try to right click the little add in spot on the track I get feedback that sounds like something, but the lights still don't go on. From a further re-reading today (my effectiveness went down late last night), I think I have failed to make the loopback a Midi device so I will work on that

David

PS This is from a newbie, but the guide is written fragmentarily (probably because you have gone back to a basic document and added fixes for user found problems) and assuming a knowledgeable reader (not always what you have-smile) and basically since you want the purchaser to try it out so that it is reasonable to have a no-return policy it would help if it was a little easier (and finally in my opinion it would be much better to have a 30 day trial than to have that loud beep since 1) I had to go to headphones to avoid waking my wife and 2) after a couple of hours of messing around I was already past the fun into frustration and the headache only exacerbated the problem). I don't want to be a big negative guy, but the process was a bit harder than it could have been.

PS 2 I spent an hour or so working with the PA so low that I heard the beeps loud and clear, but the sound was so low that when I did get the Jammer Jammin' (not w/me) that I didn't know it and only found out when I switched to headphones (smile).

There is no beep in the Jamstix demo. Instead, the demo will throw in a single beat of silence every 48 beats or so. Are you maybe using the DirectiXer demo? That one has a beep built in.

Do you get the audioM8 needle to move in response to your audio signal?

Hi,

I apologize for blaming you wrongfully for the beep (if only your silence and their beep would work hand in hand-smile). I still got nowhere. I selected the loopback under Midi and still got nothing on the light that shows the jamstix unit is getting a signal the green one below it is working fine. Note: I have/had to put the m8 in use instrument mode for it to be recognized (I copied that from the jamstix properties under directix). I also took the advice of one of the posters to put the 2 note button in m8 and jstix on, but still no sound.

Still disappointed

Sorry for getting back to this so late!

The MIDI loopback has nothing to do with audio jam. For an audio jam in Sonar you would add an audio track, put audioM8 in the effects bin and turn the 'monitor' on. You should now see the needle of audioM8 move in response to the audio signal.

Now add Jamstix to the synth rack via 'Add synth' and switch it to 'Jam with audio'. The little LED in the right bottom corner of Jamstix should light up indicating that it sees the audioM8 signal.
