when u want at certain times in a song to sync the drums with the other instruments for emphasis, like to emphasize the melody of the song with sync'd hits for a short time in a song, what does a drummer usually hit, is it just the kick and snare together, and the cymbal, too sometimes, or does it depend on the situation? (what's the standard textbook way to do it, if there is one)--
also, ralph, just an idea, i thought maybe jamstix could come up with a way to integrate with notation software such as overture, etc. and maybe speed up the writing process, with some sort of system that exports midi not in the standard way, meaning it could like filter the midi information for only the parts that would normally be written in on a real drum notation part (meaning it wouldn't be full of notation but would rather look like a standard drum notation with repeats, and only add the imporatant defining parts, if u understand what i mean)--
i think this would help a lot of people as it is time saving, it could teach people (myself included) how to really write properly for the drums , and could make jamstix a host for professional work that is headed for the studio/ live stage-- let me know what u think, and by the way , hi, it's been a while, just been busy but i have been reading the forum sometimes and have certainly been working on my music |

There's no standard way. Most of the time crashes are used in combination with kick or snare. Sometimes a drummer will play snare, toms and kick in sync with the melody.

Not an easy one but we have thought, and still are thinking, about something like this long term. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| thanks for your reply, ralph, happy to hear that u guys are thinking about something like that-- in regards to my first question, what's the best way to implement sync'd drums in a song using jamstix? it seems like some real drum programming would be required, but not so easy to do-- are u thinking about any ways this could be implemented in an easier fashion? |

Aside from programming it, which isn't so hard to do with the rhythm editor, you can try these options:
a) Open the 'jam Habits' in the jam control panel and make sure the 2nd option ('Accent hits with kick...') is checked.
If you are using Free Jam with MIDI: experiment with hitting single hits on the MIDI keyboard. You should hit at least 4 to 5 notes simultaneously, pitch does not matter but they need to be 'in time'. Jamstix should respond by adding hits in synch.
If you use 'Manual Jam': add hits as discussed above to the Jamstix MIDI track.
b) Go to the rhythm tab on a new rhythm and select LEARN. Play your host and hit the kick drum on the keyboard (C1) in synch with your desired hits for one bar. Jamstix should check kicks in the rhythm tab to match your play. This gives you a jump start on editing. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
