Sometimes you need a kit that's dry because the song needs it or you want to use your own room simulator on the drums.
One obvious way is to reduce the ambience of individual sounds or the whole kit but this reduces the drum signal to the close-mono mic signals.
An better way is to shorten the sustain of some or all drums sounds so you get to keep the attack and richness of the ambience stereo signal but without the sustain, decay and 'boominess'. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ralph,
I really appreciate tips and tricks like this. Please post more if you or anyone else have any up your sleeve. I would also suggest a sticky Tips and Tricks topic. |

Hi Ralph,
This was the only post I saw in a search with 'ambience' in it so I thought I'd post here! On a song we recently, ummm, discussed: I am putting all snares on Output #2. If I then check "Ambience: Route to $4" then ALL the snare sounds go to Output #4, and if I check it ALL snare sounds go to Output #2. This is with the slider anywhere from 0% to 100%. Is this what I should expect? Thanks,
Paul |

Your snare is probably a Close Stereo sound (with CS in the name).
These sounds have no ambience but are transmitting their close stereo signal via the ambience channels so that's why it all ends up in #4.
We will fix that in the next beta so CS sounds don't route to #4. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
