Ralph
You know I'm a huge fan of Jamstix.
This week I have had a bit of free time to get in and use Jamstix.... (yes it does take months and months to really get to know any piece of software that is as feature full as Jamstix is...)

There is what I consider an overlookled fault in the fundamental workings of jamstix... something that needs to be addressed before v.2.

It relates to the saving and creation of rythyms.

I'll have to go through it as an example... it's the only way to expalin myself..

Lets say for example that I want to start writing a song... I have the guitar ideas and now want to write some drum parts and arrange my song... I want to write each pattern from scratch using a mouse...I'm not importing midi patterns or using any patterns generated by Jamstix.

So I start off writing a beat in the Rythym tab... I can name and save this... I'll call it 'My Beat One'... now If I want to write a second pattern very similar to the last but with a change... say... some toms... and call it 'My Beat TOMS' I have to go to the arrange tab... then select the next rythym in the list and go back into the rythym tab and paste the setting from position '1' and then I can tweak my next pattern... only to have to do all this over again to make 'variation 3'... and so on...

This really makes you concentrate more on the numbers and the software than you should have to... it is like a mathematical maze!

It really kills a degree of inspiration it for me.

What needs to happen... and I can easily expalin this... but you are the one who has to write the code.. so I don't know how difficult it is for you..

But here it is:
Every time you alter a pattern in the Rythym tab (say I alter pattern 'My Beat One') and save it with a new name ('my Beat Two') it automatically saves to the next free slot on the list in the arrange page... that is so simple!

Don't you agree this would be an easy way to make the work-flow quicker?

Sounds like a good idea. I'll see what we can do...

This one thing would make Jamstix so much easier to use...

I'm so glad you said "Good idea, we'll have a look at it"

But that is the kind of company you run... you do listen.

We'll have to modify the concept a bit. Once you have modified Pattern A to B, it has already replaced Pattern A so loading it to the next slot would lead to two pattern Bs and magically reloading A into the first slot doesn't work since there shouldn't be a need to actually save rhythms to the library.

We'll see what we can come up with in the same spirit.

It's great to see such a quick, positive response - and I've read that phrase quite a few times since looking at the forum. Having such good customer support was one of the decision makers in getting Jamstix.

You've confused me with science there with your expalination, maybe tommorrow after a sleep I might be able to comprehend that....

But it is very arkward to have to go to the arrange page to select 'slot 2' to write your next rythym pattern each time (up to 15 times)

Something in the same 'spirit' that will make this 'manuovere' redundant would be excellant!

(I will look into what you've explained here over the next few days and get back to you on this issue.
