Fellow Jammers
Anyone out there be intersted in a 'Classic Snares pack' (snares only)??
Close mic'd like the DP#2 so we can use our own convolution reverbs (like the Waves IR-1) and compressoers (etc) with a selection of classic snares like BFD have done... but done properly like Ralph has done in DP#2.... It could contain some brass snares... like a Ludwig Black Beauty, some nice old wooden vintage Gretsches, ... premier, Leedy...you know whay I'm saying.. maybe a few really rattly old vintage snares...lossely tuned with a nice vibe... ones that when you hear the samples you can almost smell the dust on the snare wires... ...some snares with real character... some woth real loose tunings and rattly snare wires... some with tighter tunings AND rattly snare wires! (I like to hear the skins shaking as well....!!)
it's been done with guitars... everyone wants a '52 telecaster played through a '64 fender deluxe amp... or a '59 Gretsch played through and Ampeg reverb rocket... ('59 les paul trough a '66 marshal combo?) and then there's the 'pawn-shop-prize' thing... the danelectro guitars and silvertone amps.... It'd be nice to have a vinatge snare collection!
like the ones from great records from the 50's, 60's and 70's...
The reason why this would be a real cool idea to me... is that when I heard that DP#2 snare... I thought "oh yeah, this is the sound I'm after.." and then it struck me that I'll be using this snare sound on everything I do from now on... so it'd be nice to have a selection of...say...six or so, total classic snares that were recorded up close and as well as the DP#2 snare... so I don't have the DP#2 snare on every single track for the rest of my life! It's great but eventually it'll become tedious!
I think Ralph has actually 'nailed it' with the DP#2 snare... but more variety of this close mic'd theme would be just KILLER!!
BFD have such a great snare selection.... but if JAMSTIX does it... they'll sound better than BFD and be more useable.. forget the 36 mics... just do a nice close stereo classic snare collection!!
Anyone else out there be interested in that?
Maybe a list could be collected of really desirable snares?
Anyway much impressed with DP#2!!! Now I want the CLASSIC SNARE COLLECTION!!
