|
|
I'm trying to get Jamstix 4 working in Linux. It technically works using yabridge, but the plugin screen is all black. I can click certain sections of the screen to make tooltips appear, or if I click for Percussion it pops up that that feature is not available which then makes the whole plugin visible. I can then work out where to click to access certain controls on the screen.
Sound and MIDI is fine, no real stuttering and I can just about work around this but does anyone know how to fix it?
The problem exists with DXVK installed and not installed, and I'm using yabridge with wine staging 9.21, elementary OS 8, 8 GB RAM and a Pentium Silver N5030 CPU with Intel UHD Graphics. DAW is Reaper 7.
Before I switched from Windows 11 to Linux on this laptop it worked perfectly. |

| I definitely do not have anything concrete to offer you but have you tried the various install options in the Jamstix Manager to see if it changes anything? You are venturing into some Linux black magic territory there. I hope you figure it out though regardless, good luck. |

I only have the Jamstix Free for now. I hope if I can get it working I can buy the base version with some of the packs. So I'm not sure on other options in the manager?
I noticed I haven't installed corefonts. I don't think it'll change anything but I'll give it a go this weekend. |

| Update: I installed corefonts and that's made a slight improvement, but there's still most of the time a completely black plugin screen. |

Hey e_22,
In the Jamstix Manager, the options I was talking about are under the "Troubleshooting" button not "Install Options". I would personally just randomly try different ones to see if they helped since it's already not working. The various troubleshooting options work with the free version also. |

| Excellent! Thank you, I'll give that a try. Any particular settings that you think are most likely to solve things? |

Hi e_22,
Not really but the first I would try would be "Disable Hardware Acceleration" only because I know that has helped others in the past. Good luck. |

That's one of the things I tried today, and to be honest I made things worse. At one point my whole laptop crashed to a kernel panic screen... Not seen one of those in years. I don't think its the fault of Rayzoon, more a fault of yabridge/wine.
But I didn't want to give up on Jamstix, especially as I plan to get an upgrade from Free... I realised I have a Windows machine that my wife uses for her non-Mac compatible games. I also use it for a couple of games I can't get working in Linux as well, which are not many.
So I installed Reaper and Jamstix onto those and it works perfectly now. It means I'll need to copy files from Windows onto Linux as I mix, but it's doable, and better than giving up on Jamstix entirely.
I'm happy now, that I can get busy with making music! I'm loving the Animal drummer |

| Well sorry it didn't help but glad you figured out a way to make the situation better. Have you considered maybe doing a dual boot setup on your computer? |

| I don't have enough hard disk space on my computer to dual boot decently, but I do remotely access the Windows machine, which exists in the cloud, from my Linux PC. So copying things over is not too bad. |
