Hi All,
been trying to get jamstix (demo) to audio jam using savihost. Im trying to do this on a laptop. if it's possible could someone post some instructions. I have vsthost also if thats better.

- Make sure you have a proper audio input selected in SAVIHost
- Load Jamstix and click 'Free jam' in the jam tab
- Click 'Jam With Audio' on the bottom of Jamstix
Look at the little red LED to the right of the 'Jam With Audio' selector. It should light up with the audio signal. The drums should start playing after a few beats and the velocity slider should move proportionally to the audio volume. Adjust the trim with the input trim knob to the right of the 'jam with audio' selector so your loudest signal makes the velocity slider just hit the right end. Use the 'Min Velocity' slider to set a minimal velocity for silence or low signal.

Hi Ralph,
My first post, so to start with I must congratulate you for producing such a fantastic program as Jamstix, plus giving us all those great kit sounds in the add on paks! I can't say I've used even half the power of Jamstix so far, but I find it very easy to add drum tracks to my projects in Cubase SX3.
My question is related to the point above. I would like to run Jamstix in a standalone mode (using a host like savihost or minihost) so I can jam along with it on guitar to try out different ideas for songs. Then, when I've got something I like, I will lay down the proper tracks using Cubase.
Is it possible to have 2 copies of Jamstix on my computer (not used at the same time) - one in say minihost and one in Cubase. Are there any problems doing that, e.g. will they interfere with one another?

You can only have one Jamstix folder on your machine. However, you can place copies of jamstix.dll and audiom8.dll all over your machine, wherever needed. This can become a headache at update time, though, as you need to manually ensure that all occurrences of the DLLs are updated.
With MiniHost, you do not need to have an additional copy, it will happily use the one in the Cubase plugin folder. Same for SAVHost, just put savihost.exe into the Jamstix folder where jamstix.dll is and rename it 'jamstix.exe'.

Hi Ralph,
Thanx for getting back. I guess the problem is number 1. Im not sure how to do that  Im not even sure what to use to play the audio file. and yes, Im new to all this vst stuff and only involved with it now cause I wanna try jamstix.

Well, to start off with, I would use Jamstix without input. This way you can get used to the basics of JS first.
Copy savihost.exe to the Jamstix folder where jamstix.dll. Now rename that copy to jamstix.exe and execute this file. You should now see the Jamstix GUI. Click 'Free Jam' and after a few beats you should hear drums. Let me know if you get this far.

been messing with jamstix for a few days. everyhing is working. it seems to do ok with midi. freejam and keyword jam have been great. I have savihost setup the way you described. just cant seem to get audio piped into jamstix. I also tried having another savihost running audiom8 since another post here claimed to have it working that way with 2 savihosts.
btw, I forgot to mention I am very impressed with jamstix. I just found myself listening to a grove for almost 15 minutes. and jamstix does indeed groove.

In SAVIHost, go to Devices->Wave and make sure an input port is selected. If it is greyed out then your current output port doesn't allow input so you need to change that one. Once you have an input port, make sure your Windows mixer settings are such that an audio signal is present at the 'recording' input.

The wave inout and output are set to MME MS sound mapper. not sure what you mean by windows mixer. other than *no wave* thats the only input option. output also has a MME Conexant AMC Audio

MME is fine. Just use the Windows task bar mixer icon to have the proper audio source for input (mic or line-in). Attach a sound source to it and you're good to go.

Hi Ralph,
OK, It hit me that I needed to run the audio thru the mic-in. now jamstix can hear the audio. the audio signal was crappy thru the mic line from an mp3 player so I guess I have to find a usb audio card.
Thanx for all your help on this one.
Now I would like to know how to sync the audio with jamstix. most of the tunes Im trying to put drum parts on are dylanish type acustic guitar tunes with fluctuating time ( the guy doesnt record with a metronome) 
Would freejam be a better chouce for this kinda stuff? and will savihost force the bpm setting?

Sorry Fred, Jamstix is always synch'd to the host. The only way to get around this would be to create a time track in a host that supports timing extraction.

I figured as much. so one more question should do it. Since I have to get a usb audio device and most of these devices usually come with one of the popular recording packages. which package do you guys like to use?
Cubase,Sonar,other?
