Yesterday I've discovered Jamstix and today I had lots of fun with the demo. I think for my kind of music I will use the manual mode most, making my own rhythms, using the arranger to arrange them and (and this is where I start to use the real Jamstix power) add accents and powerplay using midi-controllers. Yes, I like to have control over what I do! I always hated creating the drum parts, not for the basic rhythm, but for the extra's like fills and accents, which took way too long to program, let alone let them sound realistic! I'm planning on making a base of 'patterns' for each of my songs and then make variations of them with probability sliders and accents, which will save me A LOT of time and which will (which I like most!) maken things surprising even for myself! I already fallen in love with the awesome crash accents, which makes a basic pattern suddenly sound cool and hot and way out! Also the great option to make everything sound softer with the velocity control AND the awesome limb-option (or whatever it's called) that makes things sound realistic (no octopussy-drummer!) make it all VERY easy to get a varied sound with just a few patterns!
Anway... what I wanted to ask : I just discovered Jamstix 2 is on the way! So before I buy Jamstix 1 I wonder... will there be some sort of update policy? Will newer customers get better prices? Should I wait for Jamstix 2? Is a releasedate already known (probably not... ) Is there a list of somewhere of things that will be changed/added in version 2? |

Jamstix 2 has no release date but it is likely to be in the summer or fall of 2006.
Existing customers will get an upgrade offer for JS2 with a substantial discount.
All sound expansion paks for Jamstix will also work for Jamstix 2.
Precise details on changes in JS2 will be announced as we get closer to the release. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Oh well, okay, I won't wait for that! I just can't! Impossible!
Two more questions (although this is getting off-topic):
1. I have two computers: my regular DAW and a laptop on which I do some additional editing whenever I got the time for it. Can I install JS on both or do I need two license keys in that case?
2. Can I order and download and burn all files on dvd (I plan to buy the jamboree! on a completely different computer?
I never ever play jazz, usually rock/pop with an alternative edge, but after listening to the brush demo's I can't wait to experiment with some jazz tunes, specially because imho JS works great with that kind of music, specially when you set all accentsliders and probabilitysliders fully open: you get some REALLY crazy results that way! Stuff that I'd never be able to program manually (nor anyone else, I think...!). I only wanted to buy just JS but since you have that jamboree offer... I just can't resist getting it all, I'm afraid... |

One license is enough. You can install several copies of Jamstix on different machines but you can use only one copy at any given point in time (like a book)

Absolutely.

I agree with you. I do this often myself, loading a brush kit or even mix&matching brush and stick sounds and then hitting the random key on the free jam until hear something interesting, then I fine-tune it manually. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
