Hi,

I'd like to know if this is possible -

Suppose I've created a song in JS4 and then done specific regeneration and editing of fills at many locations throughout the song. IOW, I have a bunch of custom fills created for the song, positioned and played exactly as desired.

NOW, I would like to try out some completely different interpretations of the drumming for the song, meaning new style, new drummer, different params BUT I want to KEEP my exact painstakingly created fills in place exactly as they are while I experiment with such variations.

I suppose another way to ask the question is, can I regenerate the entire for Groove, while leaving the entire for Fills exactly as it already is?

Thanks to anyone who can follow this question and respond!

The easiest way to do that would be to:

1) Go to the Fill window.
2) Right click on the first Fill bar "Dot" in the Timeline.
3) Click Edit>Lock All Events in the menu. This will lock the Fill.
4) Repeat for all of your other Fill bars.
5) Load a different Style, Drummer or recompose completely. The locked fills will remain unchanged.

I would also suggest creating a restore point beforehand so you can get back to your original starting point.

Excellent, thanks very much!

That works great to cause the previous work (fill hits) to be kept.

I notice though that when I regenerate, new fill hits are (usually) added to those previously locked hits. Can I suppress this?

Ah yeah I forgot about that. The only thing you can do is after the extra hits are added by the recomp is to click the "Clear" button under the Song Sheet WHILE in the Fill window to erase them. The original fill is still there since it was locked. Sorry about that.

Sounds like one extra simple step - I'll take it!

Perhaps though I'm not understanding exactly where to do this.

I did Clear Song, which did exactly that, clearing everything.

I also see a sub-menu under Song -> Clear, which offers 3 options:

Clear Buffers
Clear Structure Cache
Clear All Non-Core Bars (Groove)

None of those seem to do what we are talking about.

Am I looking in the wrong place(s)?

Or is it that I have to revisit every fill bar bar one-by-one and click the Clear button that is between the Bar and Preview buttons?

At the Part level I can:

Recompose Whole Part

Recompose Groove Only

Recompose Accents Only

Recompose Fills Only

This would be extremely useful at the Song level also.

Not possible?

That is the Clear button I was referring to while in the Fill window.
