Hello,
Since long ago I wanted to take a deeper look on the mappings and this weekend I have studied that matter, looking into the manuals of both JS and Addictive Drums, together with corresponding files. I found some things and suggestions of change, as I think a couple of hits could be better mapped (or alternatively, maybe some users tell me why I am wrong, if it is the case):
First and most simple of all: AD has a sitcks sound on 75 (D#4), so I think it is better to map directly to it, instead of to 42, what in AD is "snare sidestick", not drumsticks. I paste here the file edition to this part:
;37=42 ;Drumsticks remapped to 75 (sticks in AD)
37=75 ;Drumsticks
Second: the hihat hits that are called shank and shaft, in JS and AD, respectively:
In the mapping file the mapping is:
-HH shank 0% to 49, HH closed 1 tip in AD. Sounds are similar but not the same, and shaft is already available in AD, right to the side, in 50.
-HH shank 50% to 53, HH closed closed bell in AD. Here the sounds are extremely different. I don't find shaft 50% in AD, so it can be mapped to open B (same hit as tip HH 50%).
-HH shank open is not mapped, but I think there is a similar sound in AD.
As AD has shaft (shank) hits, I suggest following mapping:
-for closed shank use now 50 (D2), what is closed 1 shaft (instead of closed 1 tip).
-for shank 50% use now 55 (G2), what is open B. That would get same mapping as HH 50%, as I don't find shaft 50% in AD.
-for shank open add a mapping to 7 (G-2), what is CC hihat shaft, and I find it sounds similar to shank open (100%).
This way the edition to the mapping file will be
;92=49 ;Hihat Shank 0% remapped to 50 (closed 1 shaft in AD)
92=50 ;Hihat Shank 0%
;94=53 ;Hihat Shank 50% remapped to 55 (open B in AD)
94=55 ;Hihat Shank 50%
;96=26 ;Hihat Shank Open remapped to 7 (cc hihat shaft in AD)
96=7 ;Hihat Shank Open
I am not able to find a hihat bell sound originated from JS, so AD doesn't get them, allthough AD has closed and open hihat bell.
I hope the suggestions makes sense.
If some fellows using AD and having more experience with it find this of interest, please do take a look.
Have a nice weekend. |
